All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Charles Shirah cshirah@charter.net May 21, 2008, 5:25 pm Lot 159/ First District Written: October 24, 1859 Recorded: February 14, 1860 Georgia, Macon County: 421 This indenture made and entered into this twenty fourth day of October Eighteen Hundred and fifty nine between Lourana Shira of the County and State aforesaidof the one part and Washington Hall of the same place of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to her the said Lourana Shira in hand paid by the said Washington Hall at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt hereof of hereby acknowledged hath this day sold, bargained, granted and conveyed and by these presents doth sell, bargain, grant and convey to said Washington Hall all that tract or parcel of land lying and being situate in the first district of once Muscogee now Macon County as part of lot number one hundred and sixty (160) to wit. that is to say fifty acres in the southeast corner of said lot as laid off by surveyor, and also two acres of lot one hundred and fifty nine (159) in said first dist. as aforesaid and ajoining said fifty acres containing in all fifty two acres To have and to hold the said bargained premises to him the said Washington Hall his heirs and assigns the above described premises to him and then own proper use, benefit and forever in fee simple, and the said Lourana Shira will forever warrant and defend the rights and titles to the above described premises to the said Washington Hall his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns against the claims of herself her heirs executors administrators and assigns against the claims of all other persons whatever. Laurana, Lurany) Shirah was the widow of Charles Shirah, who died at the age of 39 in 1849 in Macon County. The witness, John Shirah, is the oldest son who moved with the family to Georgia from Richland County, SC between 1832 and 1836. Two older sons, Jacob and Isaac, remained in SC. The buyer, Washington Hall (a.k.a. Zachariah Washington Hall), born 1812, was the husband of Rebecca Shirah (Shira), who was the daughter of a Jacob Shirah who moved to Houston County, GA from Richland County, SC. That Jacob was born in 1790 and is believed to be the brother of Charles Shirah, and son of Jacob Shirah, Sr. who died intestate in 1826 in Richland County, SC. Lourana Shirah moved to Taylor County, GA the same year this land was sold and purchased twice the acreage for the same sum of $500.00. She lost four of her seven sons between 1862 and 1864 in Virginia (Charles Jr in Richmond, Christopher at Antietam, John, who witnessed this deed, at Seven Pines, and Lt. James Shirah sometime after being wounded in battle at Olustee, Florida. After the war Lourana moved back to Richland County, SC where she lived with her son, Jacob C. Shirah until she died of consumption, shortly after being entered in the 1880 Census of Richland County, SC.
