He married Rebecca Matilda Dykes, Oct 14, 1847. They had six sons: Jesse, John Jerry, William Rufus, Walter Sampson and Verner Orlando. William Rufus Walters was the son of Jeremiah Dawson Walters and his wife, Rebecca Matilda Dykes, was born July 30, 1857 in Dooly County. Walter R. married Mary Clifford Burnam, on Dec 19, 1877, in Spalding, a village near Montezuma.
