Needham Barfield, Garden Valley, Macon County GA (residence) 2. All my life (length of residence) 3. In 1828 in Edgefield County, S.C. (where born) 4. 1st Georiga Reserves in & about Savannah, GA )where served) 5. 6 months and afterwards served in Co. G 54th GA Vols. 6. As above 6 months (military duty) 7. By close of the war in Virginia by reason of close of war (discharge from service) 8. Farming (occupation) 9. Might Little (amount can earn) 10. Farmer (occupation since 1865) 11. First [age and poverty] basis for application 12. About 4 years. I am 72 years old had my left arm broken by shell at Spottsvanie, VA rendering said arm useless 13. None (property possess) 14. None except some stock which I sold to get a living 15. Muscogee County & returned nothing for taxation (county resided in during those years) 16. By what little I could do & the help of friends (1898- 1899 way of support) 17. About 50 dollars. I contributed very little. (Contribution for support) 18. Laborer. I received about 40 dollars but can't earn so much now. 19. A wiufe. She has no means of support. She has no homestead. 20 None (not receving a pension) Needham X Barfield 22 Jan 1900 QUESTIONS FOR WITNESS Macon County I, Wesley Melvin, support application of Needham Barfield. 1. Wesley Melvin, near Garden Valley, Macon County, GA 2. Known Needham Barfield about 45 or 50 years 3. He lives in Macon County, GA. Lived in state all his life. 4. In 1861 he was in 1st Ga Reserves. I was in same Regiment & company 5. Same company 6. ? in Georgia troups . Afterwards in Co 6 54th GA Vols. I don't know about his discharge from latter Regiment. 7. None. I live near him and I know that he has never had any property since I knew him. 8. None [1896, 1897, 1898, 1899] 9. He has not [owned property in last 4 years] 10. A laborer has two wounds & health very bad. 11. The is because of wounds, old age and disease 12. I do not know [how he supported 1898-99] 13. I do not know [how he derived income] 14. He was wounded twice in battle, is old and very feeble and has very bad health. 15. None [interest in recovery of pension] Wesley Melvin 24th Jan 1900 Affidavit of Physicians G.W. Nelson, M.D. and M.F. Crumley both physicians of Macon county: Left are was fractured by { ? ? war with States was never set properly and as a consequence has ?? or ?? away until he can't well ? ? suffers from another wound in shoulder ba;; and stopping in the clavicle which causes him great suffering. health is very bad. 24th Jan 1900 Indigent Pension 1902 Gives power of attorney to J.S.
