McKenzie JP Macon County Citizen - Oglethorpe, Ga. Sept. 30, 1927 ILL HEALTH CAUSE OF BRYAN SUICIDE Marshallville, Ga. Sept. 26 - E. C. Bryan, prominent planter residing three miles from this city shot and killed himself shortly after breakfast this morning while his wife and a negro woman were in the back of his home. He had been suffering for several years and was almost blind at the time of his death. He is thought to have been mentally deranged. Hearing the shot in the front part of the house, where Mr. Bryan had been propped up in a chair, Mrs. Bryan rushed there to find him stretched out on the floor with the top of his head blown off. He had used a Colt .45 automatic. Despite the prompt action of physicians, the invalid died about an hour later. FAMILY RE-UNION - Sunday had been a day of reunion with the Bryan family. His two sons, Lieut. Bert Bryan of Fort McPherson and Alva Robert Bryan of Macon had been here as had his daughter, Miss Virginia Bryan, a teacher in the Byron public schools. They left late Sunday night. Mr. Bryan was a son of the late Amanda Fitzpatrick Bryan and Jasper Newton Bryan, both prominently identified with the life of this section for many years.
