Betts - jlabetts@burgoyne.com Edward Strickland married Elizabeth Binnes in Crosthwaite and Lyle, Westmoreland Co. England (ancestors tied in 1500's to Stricklands of Sizergh Castle), and produced son Matthew Strickland 1641, who married Elizabeth Lorains b. 1657 Yorkshire Co. England, dau. of Anthony Loreynes and Anne Basse of Yorkshire/Northampton Co. England. Matthew and Elizabeth Strickland migrated on the ship "Globe" to Maryland, c. 1680 and he worked off indenture, went to Isle of Wight, Virginia where he owned land. His son Matthew Strickland Jr. was courier for land deals in Albemarle Co. N. Car. Matthew Strickland Jr. married Anne Bracewell/Braswell, dau. of Rev. Richard Bracewell. Their son Jacob Strickland received land along the Tar River in Nash Co. N. Car. He married Lucretia Pitts, dau. of William Pitts. Jacob's sons Solomon Strickland and Jacob Strickland Jr. received land in Nash Co. N. Car. which they exchanged for land in Edgecombe Co. N. Car. Solomon Strickland married Amy Pace dau. of Thomas Pace and Amy (Amelia)(Mildred)Boykin of Northampton Co. N. Car. They were married 19 Sept 1764 in Edgecombe Co. N. Car. She had lived in Edgecombe Co. after the death of her father with her brother Thomas Pace who owned land in Edgecombe Co. N. Car. Solomon's brother Jacob Strickland Jr. married Pricilla Taylor Young. Solomon Strickland migrated with Amy, to Elbert Co. Ga. where their names are carved as first members of Primitive Baptist Church. Solomon Strickland also served as militiaman, during Revolution. He and Amy migrated or was divided into Madison Co. Ga. where they appear on rolls of Old Lystra Primitive Church, 1803. Solomon Strickland then received a land lottery in 1805 for Wayne Co. Miss. He migrated to Amite Co. Miss. where many of his children were married. It is believed Amy Pace Strickland died there. Solomon Strickland went back to Madison Co. Ga. where he lived with Solomon Strickland Jr. (Gov. of Ga.) and saw his brother Jacob Strickland Jr.'s family. He died there in 1815. Solomon Strickland and Amy Pace Children: Ephraim Strickland, died 1788 Athens Co. Ga. Battle of Boggs Hill, against indians. Henry Strickland m. Ruth Thompson Mary Elizabeth (Mollie,Polly) Cotton Strickland m. William Carter of Jackson Co. Ga. son of Solomon Carter, son of Samuel Carter of Edgecombe Co. N. Car. They migrated to St. Tammany Par. La. and finally Pike Co. Miss. Barnabus Strickland m. Rachael Mackey dau. of Thomas Mackey of Elbert Co. Ga. children are buried in Blue Stone Creek Cemetery. Millicent Strickland m. Robert/Joseph Higginbotham Hardy (Devil) Strickland m. 1st cousin Pricilla Strickland dau. of Jacob Strickland Jr. and Pricilla Taylor Young. Eunice Strickland m. Alexander Thompson Solomon Strickland Jr. became Senator of Georgia, and married Margaret Diamond dau. of John Diamond had son, had illigitimate child by her sister Mary Frances (Fanny) Diamond, married her, she died, married Hulda Hardwick and later Eliza Ann Oxford.
