State of Georgia Madison County On this twenty seventh day of June eighteen hundred and forty four personally appeared before James Long, one of the Justices of the Inferior Court of Madison County and State of Georgia, Ruthy Bragg, a resident of said State in the County of Madison aged eighty four years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7th 1838 entitled "an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows." That she is the widow of William Bragg who was a private in the army of the revolution, and to obtain the benefit of his services and to enable her to make out her claim, she begs leave to refer you to the declaration of her deceased husband William Bragg now on file in the War Department of the United States at the City of Washington ~ also the pension certificate of her deceased husband William Bragg now in her possession, but which she attaches to this declaration and begs that it may be taken as part of the evidence in this case. She further declares that she was married to the said William Bragg some time in the month of March seventeen hundred & seventy eight. She further declares that she has no record of the marriage between herself and her husband William Bragg, nor does she know of any record to establish the same, nor has she any family record (with the exception that the ages of her children were entered on a piece of loose paper by her said husband William Bragg describing when they were born, which she attaches to this declaration and begs it may be taken as a part of this declaration).
