Pittman, and James Long, Justices of the Inferior Court now sitting as a Court of Ordinary in and for the County of Madison, Charles Tuggle, a resident of Capt. Benjamin Smith's Company Distict of Georgia Militia in the County of Madison and State of Georgia, aged seventy nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he enlisted in the army of the United States the twenty sixth day of November 1776, with Capt. Cluff Shelton and served in the tenth regiment of the Virginia line under the following named officers and served for the term of three years, to wit ~ he served under Capt. Cluff Shelton, Col. Stephens commanding the Reg't until he resigned and left the army, Col. Hawes then commanded the Regiment the balance of the said service (before he left the army he is of the opinion that the 10th regiment was reduced to the Sixth). He was discharged in December 1779 ~ his time expired the 26th November previous. He resided in Amherst County Virginia when he entered the service. The principle engagement he was in was storming the Fort called Stony Point ~ Gen'l Wayne commanded at Stony Point. He was on guard at the battle of Brandywine and in hearing of the battle of Germantown but being sick was prevented from being in the engagement. He was marched in the first place to Baltimore after entering the service and there inoculated for the small pox ~ from thence to Middle Brook to winter quarters, from thence through Morristown, Philadelphia and different places during the summer to Valley Forge where they again took up winter quarters ~ from thence to Morristown thence to the high lands of York thence to West Point thence to the White Plains near Connecticut, thence to the storming Stony Point Fort, thence to Havistraw, thence to Morristown to winter quarters and there discharged. He was under Brigadier Gen'l Weadon ~ he has lost his discharge ~ but submits the affidavit of Noell Battles. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on the roll of the agency of any State. Pittman, JIC James Long, JIC ============================ Application for a Transfer State of Alabama County of Lounds On this twenty fifth day of March 1842 before me, the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for the said County of Lounds, personally appeared Charles Tuggle who, on his oath, declares that he is the same person who formerly belonged to the Company commanded by Captain Cluff Shelton in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Samuel Hawes in the service of the United States; that his name was placed on the pension roll of the State of Georgia from whence he has lately removed; that he now resides in the State of Alabama where he intends to remain, and wishes his pension to be there payable, in future. The following are his reasons for moving from the State of Georgia to Alabama. That some time since his wife died in Georgia and he then had no near relation except a daughter who resides in Alabama in the aforesaid county and being old and infirm he resolved to go to Alabama and spend the remainder of his days with his daughter.
