Danielsville, Ga., August 21, 1913 My dear Father and Mother, while I am setting here thinking of you all, I thought that I would write you a few lines to let you all here from me. I am well at this time, trusting when the(s)e few words reaches you all, I will find you the same, But I am so wearried in mind untill I don't know what to do, I am going to kill myself, the white people is so hard down against me, But I ant redy to die, so good to you all relations and friends. It's mighty hard to do this, but I am not guilty of the crime, that they have got me charged of, but that is alright. Above is the letter written by Linsey Moon just before cutting his throat on last Thursday evening August 21st and from which wounds he died Monday morning about two o'clock. Cell mates hearing strange noises coming from Moon's cell on the night of the suicide gave the alarm and soon Sheriff Davis was on hand. Medical aid was called but it was soon found that Moon could not recover from his wounds. The following day in the presence of a large crowd Moon wrote the folowing notes: I would not never don this but I believed that they was going to kill me. Other word Mr. will have not never bin down home at night, you all understand. and another word, if my mule was drive down to Carlton some one was bleged to drive him, for I was at home. I lied down about eight o'clock. I am sorry that Mr. O. L. Deadwyler, think that this fellow five Swaine, Will Swing just old Mr. O. L. Deadwyler a story, he never said a word about the barn. Before dying he admitted his wounds were self inflicted. Moon together with others was arrested Oct. 17, 1912 on the charge of buring Dr. O. L. Deadwyler's barn. At the time of arrest he admitted the crime. At the trial he said he confession was made through fear that he would be killed if he did not confess. He was tried at the September adjourned term and found guilty with a sentence of 20 years. The case was carried to the Supreme Court and a new trial was granted, the evidence, in the court's mind, no being sufficient to sustain the verdict. He was again tried at march adjourned term and convicted with the same sentence. Again a new trial was asked and it was while waiting for the motion to be argued that Moon became despondent and decided to take his life. This case has created considerable excitement owing to the prominence of some of the parties connected with it, and the final outcome will be watched with interest.
