Hope Carithers of High Point, N.C., was honored on her 86th birthday anniversary March 17th at her home. Those sharing the occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. Jess Porterfield of Kannapolis, N.C., Mrs. Jean Young of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Lord and Mrs. Judge James of Danielsville, Ga., Mr. Russell Carithers, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gammons, Craig and Brian and Mrs. and Mrs. Cornelius Carithers, all of High Point, N.C. Mrs. Carithers' late husband, N. Hope Carithers, passed away October 27, 1972. There is a deceased son, Dorlie, who passed away several years ago. Both Mr. and Mrs. Carithers are former residents of Madison County having moved to High Point a number of years ago. She is the daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. William Thomas Meadow, prominent members of Madison County. Mrs. Carithers is a well-known citizen of High Point. A host of friends called through the day. She received many beautiful and useful gifts. Mrs. Carithers has one daughter, Mrs. Judge (Frances) James of Danielsville, three sons, Russell and Cornelius of High Point, N. C., and Allen of Atlanta who was unable to attend the delightful occasion. There are 6 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A great-grandson, Brian Gammons of High Point also observed a birthday, March 15th. He was two years old. The occasion was also honoring him. The dinner and fellowship was enjoyed by all, each one leaving wishing this fine, Christian lady many more happy birthdays to come. Mrs. Carithers has a lot of friends and relatives throughout Madison County who also wish her many more happy birthdays and years ahead. When one reaches the age of 86 special honors are due. With her many fine qualitites she can say as Helen Keller said, 'Resolve to keep happy and your job shall form a shield against difficutly." She is buried along side Noble in the Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery in the Meadow Community, Madison County, GA between Comer and Danielsville.
