NATIONAL BETA CLUB CHAPTER ORGANIZED AT MADISON CO. HIGH SCHOOL

    On Friday, January 25, plans were made at Madison Co. High School for 
establishing a local chapter of the National Beta Club, a service-leadership 
for high school students according to Mr. A. Leonard Clark, Principal.
   Mr. R. B. Hellamus, national field representative of the organization which 
has over 1,200 chapters and 20,000 members in 16 states, met with students who 
fulfilled the requirements of the club, and explained its purpose and 
objectives.
   He pointed out that the National Beta Club is a non-secret, leadership 
organization for high school students of America.  "Its objects," he further 
explained, "are to encourage effort, to promote character, to stimulate 
achievement among its members and to continue their education after high 
school graduation."
   Mrs. C. E. Adams, teacher of English, was appointed as Faculty sponsor for 
the local chapter Miss Johnny Mell Fortson was elected Secretary-Treasurer.  
Permanent officers for this year will be chosen after installation meeting to 
be held at an early date.  A special program is being planned for this 
occasion.
   The organization will be composed of the following students who have 
fulfilled the requirements necessary for membership in the National Beta 
Club:  Reba Compton, Marion Graham, Johnny Mell Fortson, Nettie Randell, 
Ravonda Hammond, John Payne, William J. Gober, Mary Bob Burroughs, Betty Jo 
Bullock, Sara McGarity, Melbourn Kimsey, Van Jenkins, Margarete White, Louise 
White, Calvin Bridges, Hubert Anthony.
