Beard was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Fortson was born April 19, 1845, and was married to W. W. Beard Feb. 8, 1859 and to this union was born ten lovely children, five boys and five girls. Her husband survived her 35 years leaving ten children to mourn his death. Henry and Charles survived her leaving only 8 children three boys and three girls to mourn her death and 52 grandchildren, 38 greatgrandchildren, 4 brothers and sisters and a host of relatives and friends. Sister Beard united with the Methodist church at Jones Chapel while young and lived a Christian life until her death, she was loved by her church and every one who knew her. A kind mother and loving companion, always ready to help the poor and give advice to the children to the end, last Dec. 10, 1917 when she fell asleep in Jesus, making her stay on earth 78 years 7 months and 21 days. A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home Which can never be filled. It was hard to part with her Oh so hard to see her die, But then we will try to meet her In that home beyond the sky. She is gone but not forgotten, Never shall her memory fade Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger. Around her grave where she is laid. Her funeral service held at Jones Chapel by her pastor Rev. M. A. Franklin and laid away in the cemetery there to await the resurection. May the Lord comfort her dear chldren and all who knew this good woman of God, and strive to imitate the beautiful Christian she lived. Gone for not forgotten Written by one who loved her. M. J. O'Kelley
