Brown, Madison County, dies from attack" -- Cliford L. Brown, 54, well known Colbert resident, died unexpectedly from a heart attack while enroute from his home to an Athens hospital Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock. Services are to be conducted from Branch Creek Baptist Church, date and hour to be announced later by McDorman-Bridges. Rev. W. L. Allen, pastor of the Baptist Church in Monroe will officiate and interment will be in Whitworth Cemetery, members of the Madison County Post of the American Legion serving as pallbearers. Other members of the Legion will form an escort of honor. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jewell Branyan Brown; daughter Mrs. Boyce Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; son Seaman Leo H. Brown, U. S. Navy; sister, Mrs. Walter Chandler, Kannapolis, NC; five brothers, Howard and George Brown, both of Athens; Whit Brown, Commerce; Homer Brown, Colbert; and Hiram Brown, Brookhaven, GA and a grandson, Ronnie Smith, Sioux Falls, SD. He was a native of Madison County and resided there most of his life, being one of that community's most respected citizens. He was a loyal and active member of the Baptist Church and was also keenly interested in affairs of the American Legion."
