He was a native of Madison County and had lived in Athens for 35 years. Alewine was born July 3, 1892, in Madison County, Georgia. He died Oct 26, 1964, in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia. Vester was known to all of his friends and family as "Uncle Buddy". His parents were Noah Wilson Alewine and Narcissus Burton Alewine, from Abbeville, South Carolina. His daughters; Mrs. Marion C. Thomas was the former Ann M. Alewine, Mrs. V. M. Smith was the former Anna Sue Alewine and Mrs. Hugh D. Thornton, was the former Inez Alewine. Uncle Buddy is buried at Moon's Grove Cemetery along side of 8 infants of his and Cleo's.
