Witcher, 77, of 415 Helican Springs Road, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 1996. A native of Madison County, Mr. Witcher was a member of Fairplay Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairplay Baptist Church with the Rev. David Stanley Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Pallbearers are asked to report to the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Mae T. Witcher; two daughters, Brendia Peterkin, Athens, and Michelle Brooks, Jacksonville, Fla.; five sons, Robert Witcher, David Witcher, Dwight Witcher Sr., James Witcher Jr. and Johnny R. Witcher, all of Athens; two sisters, Lerosy Hitchcock and Viola Howard, both of Athens; 26 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Mack & Payne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
