Perry Mrs. Celeste Freeman Perry, 64, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999. A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Perry was a daughter of Julia Garland Freeman, Toccoa, and the late Elmer Freeman. She had lived in Madison County since 1961 and was retired from the Department of Vocational Education at the University of Georgia. Mrs. Perry was a member of Danielsville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, R.M. Freeman, and grandparents, the late Noah L. and Virginia Garland and the late R.M. and Maude Thomas Freeman. Funeral services were held Friday, August 6, in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, with the Revs. Mike Hudman and Hilton Purvis officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Eugene Greene, Kenneth Williamson, Bill Hooper, Jimmie Duncan, Ken Clark and George Strickland served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Danielsville Baptist Church, the faculty and staff of the College of Education at the University of Georgia and members of the Booger Hill Ramblers. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Robert W. Perry; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Carolyn Perry, Hull, and Marc and Donna Perry, Danielsville; two sisters, Eleanor Morrow, Naples, N.C., and Cerelle Holcomb, Martin; one brother, Harold Freeman, Avalon; and five grandchildren, Jessica and Mandy Perry, both of Hull, and Robert Marc Perry Jr. and Kayla and Chandler Perry, all of Danielsville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Danielsville Baptist Church Building Fund, Courthouse Square, Danielsville, GA 30633. Tilson Mrs. Fannie Erwin Tilson, 88, of Cornelia, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at BJC Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Tilson was born on September 11, 1910 in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late John Chandler and Margie Morris Erwin. Mrs. Tilson was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Tilson, two sons, Truman Tilson and J.C. Tilson, and a daughter, Hazel Robinson. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Jannie Baker, Maysville, and Marie Collins, Colbert; two sons, Lawton Erwin, Cornelia, and Tommy Tilson, Homer; three sisters, Marie Thompson Tench, Lovenie Simmons and Ethel Ivester Smith, all of Cornelia; four brothers, Lewis Erwin, Coleman Erwin and Homer Erwin, all of Cornelia, and Ray Erwin, Homer; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Kidd Mrs. Virginia Steadman Kidd, 68, of Bogart, died Saturday, August 7, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Kidd was a daughter of the late Alexander Hamilton and Ruth Amason Steadman. She was retired from Williams and Co. in Athens, with more than 30 years service, and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with Miller Huckabee and the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Hugh Logan, Claude Williams, Griffin Moody, Marvin Doster, John Hannay and Glen Harbin served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Cook, Ben Boatright, Ray Cearly, Hal Brown, Eddie Tiller, David Dean and Dick Carteaux Survivors include her husband, Howard Kidd; daughters and sons-in-law, Joy K. and Steven C. Rogers, Peachtree City; five grandchildren, Matt, Ben and Ginny Patterson, all of Summerville, S.C., and Frank and Alex Rogers, both of Peachtree City; and several nieces and nephews. Irvin Will Duey Irvin, 69, of Easley, S.C., died Monday, August 2, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Irvin was born on March 29, 1930 in Gillsville. He was a son of the late Jess and Mae Bell Tanner Irvin. Mr. Irvin was employed in heavy construction work. Funeral services were held Friday, August 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors include two sons, Greg Irvin, Athens, and Stanley Irvin, Gainesville; one daughter, Cheryl Irvin Lance, Gainesville; one brother, George Irvin, Danielsville; five sisters, Martha Harnish, Simpsonville, S.C., Mary Lou Hix, Commerce, Edith Smith and Peggy Webb, both of Gainesville, and Virginia Strickland, Chestnut Mountain; and five grandchildren. Evans Billy Eugene Evans, 59, of Commerce, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. A native of Homer, Mr. Evans was born September 11, 1939. He was a son of Elizabeth Evans, Commerce. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, at Madison Street Baptist Church with the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one brother, Benny Evans, Commerce. Burroughs, 91, of Nicholson, died Monday, August 9, 1999, at a local hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Burroughs was born October 16, 1907. She was a daughter of the late Willis and Ida Kesler Pittman. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Burroughs. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, at Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Seagraves officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Jerry Adams, Lee Adams, Bobby Pittman, Otis Barnett Jr., Mike Pittman and David Hawks served as pallbearers. Survivors include two brothers, Doyle Pittman, Nicholson, and Ed Pittman, Hull; and a number of nieces and nephews. Smith Jr. John Willis Smith Jr., 72, of Maysville, formerly of Woodstock, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7, in Sosebee Memorial Chapel of Sosebee Funeral Home, Canton, with the Rev. Racheo Lacey officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Smith; one brother, James Smith, Thomaston; one sister, Hilda Wyrick, Marietta; and several nieces and nephews. Zak Brittany Taylor Zak, 11, of Eatonton, died Saturday, August 7, 1999. Miss Zak was born in Athens and was a daughter of John Zak, Sandgate, Vt., and Kimberley Shumake Logan, Eatonton. She had resided in the Athens area until one year ago. Miss Zak was a student last year at Timothy Elementary School and was to have started the sixth grade at Putnam County Middle School on Monday. She attended Moons Grove Baptist Church, Hull, and was a member of the Athens Gymnastic Club. Miss Zak was preceded in death by her grandfather, Douglas Shumake. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, at Moons Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Fuller and Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ray Akridge, Greg Zak, Rick Zak and David Flint served as pallbearers. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two sisters, Ashley Brooke Zak and Madison Christian Zak, both of Eatonton; step-father, Lindey Logan, Eatonton; grandparents, John and Joanne Zak, Shaftsbury, Vt., and Peggy Shumake, Jefferson; and great-grandmother, Catherline Sorrow, Athens.
