Pittman William D. Pittman, 74, of Hull, died Monday, December 13, 1999. Mr. Pittman was born in Ware County, the son of the late Dophin and Carrie Hendrix Pittman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and had owned a personal care home in St. Petersburg, Fla., before retiring to Athens. Mr. Pittman was a member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Davis Pittman; one daughter, Susan Kingsolver, Hull; one son, Jack O. Pittman, Hull; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family was to have received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Johnson Earnest Holden Johnson, 95, of Athens, died Monday, December 13, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late George E. and Eva Brown Johnson. He was retired from MacGregor Company and was a member of Hull Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher and superintendent. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Willie Mae Tolbert Johnson. Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 15, in the Hull Baptist Church cemetery with the Revs. Randy Crowe and Bobby Jones officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Johnson Bargeron, Tifton, and Ann Johnson Hobbs, Athens; one grandson, Tommy Bargeron, Tifton; and two great-grandsons. Callaway Mrs. Nora Lee "Mama Nora" Callaway, 87, of Winterville, died Thursday, December 9, 1999. A native of Lumpkin County, Mrs. Callaway was a daughter of the late Floyd and Lou Hester Gheeren. She was retired from Chicopee Mills and was a member of Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. Mrs. Callaway was preceded in death by her husband, C.R. Callaway, and two sons, Tommy and Ralph Callaway. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 11, at Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Raymond Duncan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Porter Russell Bryant Porter, of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999. A native of Athens, Mr. Porter was a son of the late William Ernest and Grace Bryant Porter. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served with the U.S. Navy, and was an electrical technician. Mr. Porter was retired from the Civil Service, with 30 years of service, and had lived the last 30 years in Charleston, S.C. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Cottageville, S.C. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 9, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Revs. Curtis Hammond and Joey Young officiating. She was a daughter of the late Joseph R. Wills and Juette Wills Hill. Mrs. Hooper was a graduate of Winder Barrow High School and was retired from the Jackson County Health Department and the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. She was employed part-time with Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson. Mrs. Hooper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and was a student at Gainesville College. Miss Stoffel was active in music and drama. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Athens.
