Morris Mrs. Betty Jo Waggoner Spence Morris, 69, of Colbert, died Saturday, December 18, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Morris was a daughter of Joel Hollis Waggoner and the late Hester Peterman Waggoner. She was retired from the Social Services in South Carolina and was a member of Edwards Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her husband, Farris F. Spence, and a daughter, Bertha Rebeca "Beth" Spence. Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, at Edwards Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in New Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson, S.C. Survivors, in addition to her father, include two sons, James Michael Spence, Martinsville, Va., and Ronald Dale Spence, Columbia, S.C.; two step-sons, Keith Morris, Gainesville, and Danny Morris, Alto; two sisters, Dorothy Brooks, Crawford, and Carol Haggard, Danielsville; one brother, James Edgar Waggoner, Colbert; and nine grandchildren. Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements. --------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, December 22, 1999 Dillard Howell Dillard Howell, 58, of Commerce, died Thursday, December 16, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Howell was born April 7, 1941, in Commerce. He was a son of Edward Howell, Commerce, and the late Lillie Mae Loggins Howell. Mr. Howell was self-employed as a house painter. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 18, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Survivors include his wife, Ann Howell; one daughter, Mandy O'Kelley, Commerce; five brothers, Bobby Howell, Athens, Buford Howell, Snellville; Eddie Howell and Waymon Howell, both of Commerce, and Freddie Howell, Comer; four sisters, Barbara Coker and Betty Floyd, both of Gainesville, Geneva Floyd, Hartwell, and Jeanette Roberts, Comer; and one grandchild. Worley Mrs. Anna Mozelle Coile Worley, 82, of Elberton, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Worley was a daughter of the late Vesta Coile Dean. She was a retired waitress, a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness of Elberton. Mrs. Worley was preceded in death by her husband, O.T. Worley, and two daughters, Mae Mequiar and Hilda Worley. Funeral services were held Friday, December 17, in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Scarborough officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery. Everette Worley, Bradley Worley, Anthony Hartless, Gene Estep, Frankie Martin and Steve Crosby served as pallbearers. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ramos, Leslie, Ark., Barbara Worley, Elberton, Linda Hartless and Paula Reeves, both of Swainsboro; two sons, Melvin Worley, Sumter, S.C., and Horace A. Bacle Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Thaxton Bacle, 79, of Commerce, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999, at her residence. Mrs. Bacle was born September 10, 1920, in Greenville County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Ben and Gladys King Thaxton. Mrs. Bacle was retired from Sears and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathews Bacle. Funeral services were held Friday, December 17, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include one son, Bob Bacle, Commerce; one daughter, Gail Bacle, Hull; one brother, Hoyt Thaxton, Fountain Inn, S.C.; one sister, Annie Etta Imbastaro, Greenville, S.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Almand, 76, of Athens, died Sunday, December 19, 1999, at a local hospital. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Almand was born April 16, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Paul D. and Cynnie Dillard Collins. Mrs. Almand was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. She lived in Clarke County for most of her life and was a member of Center United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 21, at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Cathy officiating. Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Almand; one sister, Harreitta Coleman, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, William T. Collins, Decatur, and George D. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 22, at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Haynes officiating. Burial was in Moon Cemetery. Members of the class of 1967 served as honorary pallbearers and flower bearers. She was retired from Dave Gordon Auto Supply and was a member of Talmadge Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Yearwood was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Yearwood Jr. Graveside services were held Sunday, December 19, at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. George Chambers officiating. Survivors, in addition to her brother, include two sons, Jim Yearwood, Marietta, and Mike Yearwood, Tifton; one sister, Fratie S. Hardigree, Aiken, S.C.; brother, Dan Smith, Winterville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a daughter of the late Guy and Mary Lou Doss Napier. Mrs. Lawson was a housewife and was a member of Oconee Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, at Oconee Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Barrett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Phillip Lawson; two sons, Blake Gooch and Justin Gooch, both of Jefferson; and one brother, George Mathis, Maysville.
