Gee Roy Leon Gee, 67, of Commerce, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. A native of Commerce, Mr. Gee was born May 13, 1932. He was a son of the late Riley L. and Bessie Anderson Gee. Mr. Gee worked as a bus driver for Jackson County Schools. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 21, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Poston and Tommy Seay officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Jo Nell Gee; one son, David Gee, Commerce; three daughters, Donna Ayers, Ila, Carolyn Gee, Columbia, S.C., and Debbie Looney, Center; one brother, Ralph Gee, Braselton; one sister, Louise Norris, Dry Pond; and five grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements. ----------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, July 28, 1999 Irene A. Smith Mrs. Irene A. Smith, 80, of Hull, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at a local hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mrs. Smith was born November 26, 1918. She was a daughter of the late William T. and Irma Lou Rowe Allen. Mrs. Smith was retired and was a member of Hull Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Homemaker's Sunday School class. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Smith. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. The Revs. Ronny Barnes and Mark Palmer assisted. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Derek Moore, Ben Smith, William Sorrow, Steve Allen, Thurmond Smith and Kenneth Jones served as pallbearers. Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Moore, Hull, Sharon Langford, Pendergrass, and Susan Hancock, Bishop; one son, Terry M. Smith, Hull; two sisters, Catheline Sorrow and Marie Jenkins, both of Danielsville; three brothers, Cecil Allen, Augusta, and Neal Allen and Grady Allen, both of Danielsville; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. A native of Madison County, Mr. Scarborough was born September 30, 1910. He was a son of the late Silas Benjamin and Mae Chastain Scarborough. Mr. Scarborough was a retired farmer and of the Methodist faith. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Scarborough's grandsons served as pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Wood Scarborough; five sons, James Scarborough, Hull, Ernest Scarborough and Johnny Scarborough, both of Comer, Kenneth Scarborough, Danielsville, and Charles Scarborough, Ila; two daughters, Louise Gueth, Comer, and Martha Adams, Danielsville; one sister, Myrtie Alewine, Crawford; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Smith David Kim Smith, 41, of Ila, died Saturday, July 24, 1999. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Smith was a son of Lucille Hanley Smith and the late Joseph F. Smith. He worked in construction and was of the Christian faith. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, in the chapel of Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Porterfield Sr. Troy Weyman Porterfield Sr., 86, of Colbert, died Friday, July 23, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mr. Porterfield was a son of the late Carl W. and Mozelle Barnette Porterfield. He had worked with Athens Seed Company and was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. Mr. Porterfield was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Lacy. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial was in Colbert Cemetery. Survivors include one son, Troy W. Porterfield Jr., Athens; one brother, R.W. Porterfield, Athens; seven grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Moon Mrs. Frances Edna Coile Moon, of Athens, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Moon was born February 27, 1930. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Dezzie Graham Coile. Mrs. Moon was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Athens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin A. Moon. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 28, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Huff officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Moon's nephews served as pallbearers. West David Eugene West, 48, of Athens, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at his residence. A native of Memphis, Tenn., Mr. West was born October 31, 1950. He was a son of Raymond Eugene West, Chula Vista, Calif., and Allie Taylor West, San Diego, Calif. Mr. West was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a truck driver and a private airplane pilot. He was a former resident of Rex, Georgia. Graveside services were held Friday, July 16, in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. Joe Renfro officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one son, Glen Timothy West, Martin; two brothers, Richard West, Spring Valley, Calif., and Mike West, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Elaine Bellamy, St. Louis, Mo., and Carolyn Horlor, Enumclaw, Wash.; and step-mother, Helen West, Chula Vista, Calif. Beck Mrs. Betty Ruth Beck, 50, died Monday, July 26, 1999. A native of Lithonia, Mrs. Beck was a daughter of Thelma Turner McFalls, Winterville, and the late J.D. McFalls. She had lived in the Lexington area for most of her life and was employed with Superior Pants Company. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Lee Hunter officiating. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Ronald Beck; two daughters, Beth Wilbanks, Bishop, and Vickie O'Kelley, Bogart; two sons, Tony Butler, Gainesville, and Keith Butler, Watkinsville; two step-daughters, Kathy Beck, Athens, and Lynn Turpin, Lexington; one step-son, Jason Beck, Winterville; one sister, Dorothy Brewster, South Carolina; three brothers, Lanny McFalls, Watkinsville, Larry McFalls, Arnoldsville, and Robert McFalls, Winterville; and 11 grandchildren. Ledford Mrs. Taffy Griffith Ledford, 50, of Commerce, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Ledford was born January 31, 1949. She was a daughter of Mazie Craig Griffith, Jefferson, and the late Billy Joe Griffith. Mrs. Ledford was employed with Carrier Transicold and attended Emmaus Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 28, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Hudson Thomas and Henry Grady Barnes officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Jerry Ledford; three daughters, Tonye Chatham, Tammy Hill and Tracy Vitug, all of Commerce; and three grandchildren.
