A native of Madison County, Mr. Porterfield was a son of the late Carl W. Porterfield and Mozelle Barnette Porterfield. He was the owner of Athens Seed Co., managed several real estate properties, and was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. He was the oldest charter member of the Colbert Lions Club. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Porterfield Lacy. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Colbert Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Colbert Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Collier Porterfield; a son, Troy W. Porterfield Jr., Athens; a brother, R.W. Porterfield, Athens; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Troy Porterfield III, Wesley Porterfield, James Lacy, Paul Burroughs, James Simmons, and Jimmy Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Colbert Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a memorial fund at Colbert Baptist Church. --------------------------------------------------------------- Troy Weyman Porterfield Sr., Colbert Troy Weyman Porterfield Sr., a life-long resident of Colbert and a long time prominent businessman in Athens died Friday, July 23, 1999, in The Mews at Social Circle. He owned and operated Athens Seed Co. and was active in several real estate properties in Athens and the surrounding areas. He was born in Colbert on Jan. 31, 1913. Mr. Porterfield was a son of the late Carl W. Porterfield and Mozelle Barnette Porterfield. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Lacy. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Colbert Baptist Church and served as chairman of the Deacons and in many other leadership positions. Troy and his wife, Mildred, were also faithful to their community, and their many efforts to improve and make more beautiful their beloved Colbert will long be remembered. For many years, they provided initiative and leadership in the Fourth of July celebrations in Colbert, an event attended each year by many thousands. Troy was a member and past president of the local Lions Club, and spent many hours working on civic projects. There were many interests in his life beyond family, church, and community. These included farming, showing Tennessee Walking horses, raising Black Angus cattle, gardening, and hand painting china. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Colbert Baptist Church, with the Rev.
