Kelley Dewey Rose Kelley, 50, of Colbert, died Thursday, January 13, 2000. Mr. Kelley was born in Madison County, a son of the late Bunyan Monore and Flora Garrett Kelley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during Vietnam, and had been employed with Fowler Products Company. Mr. Kelley was of the Baptist denomination. Graveside services were held Monday, January 17, in the Collier Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Faye Damron, Colbert, and Addie Cloe Hill, Holly Hill, Fla.; and one brother, Reuben Ben Kelley, Elberton. Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, January 19, 2000 Margaret Maddox Mrs. Margaret Maddox, 79, of Danielsville, died Thursday, January 13, 2000. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Maddox was a daughter of the late Russell Collie and Lottie Quillan Landers Carithers. She was retired from Colbert Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Maddox was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Maddox. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery. Jeff Dillard, Shane Smith, Walter Smith, Tommy Dillard, Edward Duncan and Darral Scoggins served as pallbearers. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Dillard, Danielsville; two sisters, Alma Parham, Comer, and Mary Ann Rigby, Jonesboro; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Simmons was born July 10, 1924 in Homer. He had been employed with Garrison Brothers Lumber Company and was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Leroy Chastain and Tom Garrett officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Margie Simmons; five sons, David Simmons, Samuel Ray Simmons, Thomas Elex Simmons and Travis Simmons Jr., all of Commerce, and Jimmy Gregg Simmons, Columbia, S.C.; six daughters, Julia Echols and Carol Parr, both of Danielsville, Angela Elrod, Homer, Shirley Samples, Hull, and Rita Seabolt and Belinda Simmons, both of Commerce; one brother, George Husley, Helen; 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Saxton Mrs. Beatrice Williams Saxton, 80, of Nicholson, died Monday, January 17, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Saxton was born January 25, 1919, in Clarke County. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Margie Cody Saxton. Mrs. Saxton was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Troy Herbert officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include two daughters, Glinda Blalock, Nicholson, and Marian Wheless, Danielsville; four sisters, Rachel Andrews and Grace Brook, both of Athens, Betty Fort, Charleston, S.C., and Daisy Tantsley, Savannah; four granddaughters, Kim Butler, Colbert, Beverly Gaddis, Nicholson, Donna Smith, Danielsville, and Cindy S tancil, Jefferson; one grandson, Mitch Wheless, Danielsville; and 10 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Dustin and Bryson Temple, all of Colbert, Jonathon Stancil, Jefferson, Brandon Smith, Crawford, Justin Smith and Jessica, Whitney and Austin Wheless, all of Danielsville, and Holly Gaddis, Nicholson. Barrett, 82, of Danielsville, died Saturday, January 15, 2000. A native of Madison County, Mr. Barrett had lived in the Danielsville area for most of his life. He was a son of the late Evie Sorrells and E.B. Barrett Sr. Mr. Barrett was a retired minister, having served many churches in the northeast Georgia area. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Tim Barrett and Mark Anderson and Chaplain Mark Fite officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery. Joe Sullens, Mark Quattlebaum, Terry Ford, Clay Caudell, Lamertine Bond and James Wofford served as pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Lunice Bond Barrett, Ila; two daughters, Deanne Sullens, Williamston, S.C., and Bonda Owens, Piedmont, S.C.; one son, Tim Barrett, Gainesville; one sister, Evie Lee Lowry, Rocky Face; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Collins, 65, of Conyers, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000. Mr. Collins was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War, and was a retired tool and die maker. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Friday, January 14, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Preston Sanders officiating. Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Church cemetery, Crawford. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Collins; two sons, Travis Collins and Stuart Collins, both of Conyers; three sisters, Mary McCannon, Colbert, Judy Childs, Carlton, and Jackie Bridges, Comer; two brothers, Donald Collins, Stroh, Ind., and Leonard Collins, Carlton; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Findley Mrs. Vennie Ruth Abercrombie Findley, 83, of Royston, died Saturday, January 15, 2000. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Findley was a daughter of the late Gordon M. and Clara Brown Abercrombie. She was retired from Westclox Company and was a member of Vanna United Methodist Church. Mrs. Findley was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Steven "Steve" Findley, and a daughter, Barbara Ann Findley. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 18, in the chapel of Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Frank Owens and Sharon Waters officiating. Burial was in the Vanna United Methodist Church cemetery. Jeff Harris, Roy Hill, Andy Findley, Todd Hill, Josh Fleeman, Brian Fleeman and Nick Harris served as pallbearers. Survivors include one daughter, Ola Hill, Royston; three sons, Donald J. Findley, Royston, Billy L. Findley, Monroe, N.C., and Charles A.
