Jarrard Hayward N. Jarrard, 71, of Jefferson, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Jarrard was born December 19, 1928, in Franklin County. He was a son of the late George Marion and Addie Pauline Martin Jarrard. Mr. Jarrard was retired from BJC Medical Center, Commerce, with 15 years of service, and was a member of Tyrus Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jarrard, and a son, Roger Jarrard. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 16, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Charles Elrod and Joel Shadburn officiating. Burial was in the New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery, Nicholson. Mr. Jarrard is survived by his wife, Dessie Jarrard, Jefferson; one daughter, Ann Gaines, Commerce; four sons, Charles Jarrard and Daryl Jarrard, both of Jefferson, Grady Jarrard, Sparta, and Marlon Jarrard, Hull; one brother, L.G. Jarrard, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Geraldine Thrasher, Anderson, S.C.; and 13 grandchildren. Brewer Sr. William Ralph Brewer Sr., 85, of Nicholson, died Thursday, November 16, 2000, following a brief illness. A native of Georgia and a longtime member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Mr. Brewer served his country during World War II with the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater before entering private enterprise. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Brewer, Statham, and Aubrey Brewer, Florida. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 18, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Howard Garrison officiating. Mr. Brewer's remains were entombed at Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Wortie Lee Brewer; two children, Sandra Andrews and William R. Brewer Jr., both of Nicholson; three granddaughters, Donna Lynn Hughes, Bethlehem, Melissa Lynn Brewer-Haynes, Hull, and Amanda Kay Brewer, Nicholson; one great-grandson, Nicholas Tyler Hughes, Bethlehem; and three sisters, Marcus Parks, Athens, Julia Broom, South Carolina, and Mozelle Bellemy, Tennessee. Gaines Mrs. Lou Bell Satterfield Gaines, 88, of Maysville, died Friday, November 17, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. Mrs. Gaines was born September 3, 1912, in Hall County. She was a daughter of the late Will and Ida Williams Satterfield. Mrs. Gaines was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Gaines, and two sons, John Henry and Luther Gaines. Funeral services were held Monday, November 20, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Pendergrass, with the Rev. Melvin Green officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include three sons, Clyde Gaines and Donald Gaines, both of Maysville, and Rudolph Gaines, Jefferson; two daughters, Betty Jones, Commerce, and Nellie Faye Lee, Jefferson; one step-son, Gene Gaines, Royston; one step-daughter, Irene Whisnant, Pendergrass; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a number of step-grandchildren and one step-grandson raised in the home. Mr. Crosby was born in Monroe, La., a son of the late Edna Conley and Bill Vernon Crosby. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed with Tide Water Construction. Mr. Crosby was a member of Joy Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 22, in the chapel of Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Steve Stephens and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery. Clayton Sexton, Brandon Sexton, Jonathan Sexton, Jamie Sorrow and Chad Stephens served as pallbearers. Mr. Burden was born September 10, 1933, in Madison County, a son of the late Mack and Lettie King Burden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a farmer. He had also worked with Westinghouse as a meter technician. Mr. Burden was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons and served as choir director for 30 years. He enjoyed southern gospel music, said family members. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 19, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. James Page and James Creason officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Fred Compton, James Dixon, Dean Wade, James Cooper, Mark Therkeld and Cody Therkeld served as pallbearers. Mr. Burden is survived by his wife, Julia Evelyn Haddock Burden, Comer; son and daughter-in-law, Lanier and Gina Burden, Comer; sons, Stacey Burden and David Burden, both of Comer; one sister, Nell Herford, Hazel Green, Ala.; and two brothers, Hale Burden, Tucker, and Ray Burden, Conyers. Massey Bobby Gene Massey, 49, of Danielsville, died Saturday, November 18, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens. Mr. Massey was born June 24, 1951, a son of Frances Crane Massey, Ila, and the late John Wilton Massey. He was of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 21, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jessie Mealor officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Mr. Massey is survived by one daughter, Tiffany Jean Massey, Mt. Dan Fuller officiating. Mr. Nations is survived by two sisters, Omie Elrod, Hull, and Mattie Lord, Commerce. Hall, 83, formerly of 176 Park Drive, Jefferson, died Thursday, November 16, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hall was born July 28, 1917, in Madison County. He was a son of the late Pinion Price and Mary Elizabeth Akins Hall. Mr. Hall was a loyal employee of Jefferson Mills, retiring as a supervisor with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Jefferson, and served as Sunday School superintendent for many years. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife, Mittie Craig Hall. He was a wonderful husband, daddy and papaw, said family members. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 18, at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Adams, Fayetteville; one son, Marvin Hall, Bainbridge; one sister, Vonner H. Tolbert, Athens; one brother, Roy Hall, Americus; three half-sisters, Frances McGinnis, Bobbie Dean McCannon and Nellie Cain, all of Jefferson; one half-brother, Charles Hall, Jefferson; six grandchildren, Ginger Wilkes and Lance Gause, both of Jefferson, Donny Adams, Alpharetta, Greg Hall, Bainbridge, Gus Hall, Baxley, and Dr. Hailey Manley, The Rock; and seven great-grandchildren.
