Williams Jr. James H. Williams Jr., 66, of Hull, died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Mr. Williams was born in DeKalb County, a son of the late James Homer Williams Sr. and Corine Johnston Williams. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was owner and operator of Jim Williams Insurance Agency. Mr. Williams had lived in the Athens area since 1967, and attended Northside Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Monday, August 7, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Arnold officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. Larry Cole, Hilton Young, John Sorrells, George Bond, Lee Wilkes and Joe Taylor served as pallbearers. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Sherry Sorrow Williams; three daughters, Ginger Williams Miller, Colbert, Conni Williams, Athens, and Vicki Williams, Atlanta; one step-daughter, Pamela Fair Hamby, Colbert; one granddaughter and two step-grandchildren. Hawks Mrs. Pat Willie Lee Hawks, 65, of Colbert, died Friday, August 4, 2000. Mrs. Hawks was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Zola Fail. She had been employed with Gold Kist of Athens and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Hawks. Graveside services were held Sunday, August 6, in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Marie Barnett Brown, Colbert; one son, Ralph Whitehead, Athens; one sister, Dorothy Louise Creach, Greenville, S.C.; two brothers, Leanord Whisenant, Athens, and Edwen Whisenant, Forest Park; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Kirk, 70, of Athens, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000. A native of Madison County, Mr. Kirk was a son of the late David Hadden and Lethia Jane Crumley Kirk. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years, having served in Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Kirk was also retired from Reliance Electric and was a member of the VFW Post 2872. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Blanche McCurdy Kirk, three brothers, Leonard Kirk, Horace Kirk and Chandler Kirk, and four sisters, Ruth Adams, Vivian Argo, Marceline Lester and Eleanor Riley. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Tim Peek officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. King Mrs. Olive Pinkerton King, 84, of Commerce, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. King was born September 9, 1915, in Putnam County. She was a daughter of the late William Harry and Mammie Wiley Pinkerton. Mrs. King had worked as a secretary and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ernest King. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Carlton Peters and Jerry Payne and Minister Tom Plank officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery. Mr. Ferrell was born May 9, 1935, in Crossville, Tenn. He was a son of the late James A. (Lafayette) and Dora Richardson Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell was retired from the U.S. Marines, having served in Korea and Vietnam, and was retired from the I.W. Davis Correctional Institute. He was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Ferrell was a member of the V.F.W. of Gainesville, the American Legion of Gainesville and the Peace Officers Association of Georgia. A private family memorial service was held. Mr. Ferrell is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hicks Ferrell; two daughters, Dianne Hanson, Jefferson, and Bonnie Ferrell, Winder; four step-daughters, Beth Coker, Colbert, Cynthia Welch, Comer, Debra Kaye Roberts, Hoschton, and Faye Wazny, Bogart; one son, Michael Bruce Ferrell, Winder; one sister, Florence Levins, Panama City, Fla.; four brothers, Charlie Ferrell, Tennessee, Ezra Ferrell and Roy Ferrell, Ocala, Fla., and Alvin Ferrell, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Johnson, 71, of Crawford, died Monday, July 31, 2000. A native of Clarke County and a lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Johnnie Pate and Alice Grace McKinnon Johnson. He was a retired sergeant from the Athens Police Department, with 35 years of service, and was a member of Oconee Street Methodist Church. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Johnson. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Born in Walton County, Mr. Ivey was a son of the late John and Louise Davis Ivey. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Ivey had resided in Barrow County for the past 54 years, and was a retired painter and of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Joel Shadburn and Kenneth Mathews officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Winfred Ivey; one son, Douglas Ivey, Ila; three sisters, Betty Turner, Greenville, S.C., Mary James, Griffin, and Lynette Taylor, Monroe; two brothers, Horace Ivey, Monroe, and Harris Ivey, Winder; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mitchell Jr., 50, of Watkinsville, died Monday, August 7, 2000. A native of Decatur, and longtime resident of Athens, Mr. Mitchell was a son of Neil E. Mitchell Sr. and Martha A. Mitchell, Lavonia. He had made his home in Athens since 1991. Mr. Mitchell was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a retired chief financial officer with Century 21 International. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Thomas. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 10, in Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Cox officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Cindy Mitchell; one sister, Teresa Snyder, Madison; and nieces and nephews, Chuck Thomas, Ronda Cox, Sarah Snyder and Matthew Snyder. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Tench, and her husband, Claude Poss. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Howington Cemetery. Survivors include one son, Lewis Tench, Athens; one brother, Quillan Tench, Baldwin; three grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
