Wardlaw Ms. Karen Natacha Wardlaw, 61, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Fayetteville Community Hospital. Born October 8, 1939, in Jackson County, Ms. Wardlaw was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward Watson Wardlaw and Helen Dillard Wardlaw. She was a lawyer and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Kenneth Dillard and Robert Passmore officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Ms. Wardlaw is survived by one son, Wade Gebara, Williamstown, Mass.; one daughter, Renee Carnegie, Fayetteville; two brothers, Lionel Wardlaw, Hull, and Randall Wardlaw, Nicholson; special friend, Joe Griswold, Fayetteville; and three grandchildren. Nixon Mrs. Jeanne Davis Nixon, 80, of Danielsville, died Saturday, July 14, 2001. Born in Karachi, India, Mrs. Nixon was a daughter of the late George and Phyllis Batson Davis. She was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theater, and was a retired merchandising executive with Sterns Brothers. Mrs. Nixon was past senior vice president of VFW Post Sunset and was a member of the Amvets. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Nixon. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Hope James, Wharton, N.J.; three sons, George Donald Nixon, Kernersville, N.C., James William Nixon, Houston, Texas, and David Alan Nixon, Danielsville; two sisters, Hope Mason and Lorraine Potter, both of New Smyrna, Fla.; nine grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Mize Mrs. Blatz Faulkner Mize, 93, of Commerce, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Mize was born May 2, 1908, a daughter of the late Candler Allen and Mary Pittman Faulkner. She was retired from the Loveable Company and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Thompson, and her second husband, Swayne Mize. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Mount Olive Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Mize is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Buffington Bobby Lee Buffington, 66, of Canon, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born March 21, 1935, in Franklin County, Mr. Buffington was a son of the late James Ila and Ethel Ayers Buffington. He had been employed with Monroe Auto Equipment in Hartwell for 40 years and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Mr. Buffington was a member of Double Branches Baptist Church, where he served as a former deacon. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Double Branches Baptist Church with the Revs. David Wilson and Tim Barrett and Layman Fred Greenway officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Mr. Buffington is survived by his wife, Frances Ricks Buffington; two sons, Jimmy Buffington and Chris Buffington, both of Canon; one daughter, Paula James, Danielsville; two brothers, Harold Buffington, Archdale, N.C., and Boyd Buffington, Lady Lake, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Cornell Mrs. Imogene McGarity Cornell, 75, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Mrs. Cornell was a daughter of the late John Abner McGarity and Montie Stone McGarity Savoy. She was a homemaker and was a member of Royston Baptist Church. Mrs. Cornell was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke M. Cornell, and a son, Keith Cornell. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m Thursday, July 12, at Royston Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Barton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Steven McGarity, J.C. Duncan Robert Eugene Duncan, 59, of Danielsville, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001. Born in Oconee County, Mr. Duncan was a son of Mattie Bell Hackett Duncan and the late Homer Alford Duncan. He was a farmer with Vaughns Chicken Farm and was of the Holiness faith. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Mike Hudmon officiating. Burial was in the Macedonia Holiness Church cemetery. Bruce Charles Thomas "Tom" Bruce, 66, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bruce was born in Madison County on November 29, 1934. He was a son of the late Charlie Seaborn Bruce and Ethel Sexton Bruce. Mr. Bruce was retired from Seaboard Farms, was retired co-owner of B&S Construction and was a cattle farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as former chief of the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Bruce was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, the Royston Bass Club and the Rebel Bass Club, Danielsville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Calvin Coile and Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery. David Weaver, Clark Weaver, Terry Mincey, William Bruce, Jerry Bowen and David Holloway served as pallbearers. Faulkner Lee Dewrell Faulkner, 73, of Winterville, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Born in Madison County, Mr. Faulkner was a son of the late William Dewey and Carey Kincaid Faulkner. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired tool and dye maker with Westinghouse. Mr. Faulkner was a member of East Athens Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and was a member of the Waymon Kelley Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Georgia Cattlemen Association and of Woodmen of the World. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 13, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. David Shelley and Chaplain Mark Fite officiating. Entombment was in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Jack Malaier, Tommy Fleming, Robert Hawkins, Tommy Patton, Jerry Long Sr. and Roger Lord served as pallbearers. Mrs. Brown was born June 14, 1913, in Madison County, a daughter of the late Lovin and Ollie Quarles Evans. She was the wife of the late Leonard "Lint" Brown. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and was a member of the Nicholson Fire Baptized Holiness Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Houston Preskit and Bill Preskit officiating.
