McCants Ralph Bartlett McCants, 84, of Athens, died Saturday, July 28, 2001. A native of Taylor County, Mr. McCants was a son of the late Rantz McCants and Mattie Anthony. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was the founder of Clarke County Milling Company. Mr. McCants was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, a member of Gideons International and a member of the Classic City Lions Club. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m Sunday, July 29, at Tuckston United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Thrasher and the Revs. Lee McNeil and James Sanders officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arneal Scott, Jerry Mitton, Doyle Ashley, Bob Fields, George Bailey and J.B. Weaver served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of Gideon North Camp and members of the Classic City Lions Club. Mr. McCants is survived by his wife, Imogene McCants; one daughter, Nancy McCants, Athens; one son, Walter M. McCants, Colbert; three step-daughters, Peggy Sudderth, Claudine Smith and Vivian D. Hoard; one step-son, Dick Hoard; four brothers, Howard W. McCants, Athens, Franklin McCants and Asbury McCants, both of Butler, and Horace McCants, Gadsden, Ala.; nine step-grandchildren and one step-great- grandson. Martin, 82, of Jefferson, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Martin was born November 7, 1918, in Stephens County. She was a daughter of the late John and Effie Elrod Sheriff. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and was a member of Toms Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with Dr. Gerald Mitton and Minister Tom Plank officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Survivors include three daughters, Tina Gee and Wanda Jean Martin, both of Jefferson, and Katie Sue Lord, Maysville; five sons, Billy O. Landrum Mrs. Mary Anne Landrum, 67, of Bostwick, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Landrum was a daughter of the late Coyle O. and Vola Lee Lord Bennett. She was the wife of the late William J. Landrum. Mrs. Landrum was retired from Goshen Cushion. Graveside memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, in Coile Cemetery with the Rev. Snapp, 62, of Athens, died Sunday, July 29, 2001. Born in Chatta-nooga, Tenn., Mr. Snapp was a son of the late William Thomas Snapp Sr. and Hazel Middleton Snapp. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired realtor in Richmond and Atlanta. Mr. Snapp was a member of the American Chess Foundation, attaining the rank of Master. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, in Danielsville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ed Hague officiating. Mr. Snapp is survived by a brother, William Thomas Snapp Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Herbert Mrs. Lena Mozelle Brooks Herbert, 85, of Danielsville, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Herbert was born June 9, 1916, in Madison County, a daughter of the late Oscar David and Vevie Lovern Brooks. She worked in the textile industry and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Herbert was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Oneal Herbert, a daughter, Louise Herbert Bruce, two sisters, Margaret Gurley and Willie Maude Cook, and two brothers, Otto Brooks and Johnny Brooks. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Duncan officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Harper James Edward Harper, 78, of Comer, died Monday, July 23, 2001. A native of Clarkesville, Tenn., Mr. Harper was a son of the late George and Hallie Harper. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was retired from the Chrysler Corporation. Mr. Harper was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of Erastus Christian Church and attended Union Baptist Church. Mrs. Bland was preceded in death by her husbands, George Amory "Hoke" Swindel and Andrew Bland, and a son, Amory Swindel.
