Echols Mrs. Sally Rebecca Echols, 84, of Danielsville, died Sunday, November 25, 2001. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Echols was a daughter of the late Guy and Lena Sanders Hitchcock. She was a 1935 graduate of Madison County High School and was a star player on the Girls Basketball Team. She married J.B. Echols, her childhood sweetheart, in 1936, and was a member of Danielsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Echols spent her life being a wife, mother and homemaker for her family. She worked various times at the schools her husband worked with as school lunchroom supervisor. Other jobs she held outside her home were hotel, restaurant and kitchen manager, while living in Florida. Mrs. Echols was preceded in death by a son, John Everitt Echols. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating and the Rev. Mike McLemore assisting. Burial will be in the Danielsville Cemetery. Jimmy Wohlgemuth, Matthew Nelson, Bobby Taylor, Lane Collins, Mike Moon, Calvin Rousey and Charles Sheets will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Echols is survived by her husband, J.B. Echols, Danielsville; two daughters, Becky Echols Taylor, Panama City, Fla., and Guynel Echols Wohlgemuth, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one sister, Helen Fortson, Hull; one brother, Crawford Hitchcock, Ila; five grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The family was to have received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cannon Herbert Randolph Cannon, 87, of Hull, died Sunday, November 25, 2001. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Cannon was a son of the late John Jefferson and Ann Lemley Cannon. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was employed as a painter with AB Griffeth, of Athens. Mr. Cannon was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Danielsville. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobbie Cannon. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. David Snelgrove and Mike Campbell officiating. Burial was in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Benny Melton, William White, Curtis Edwards, David Moore, Ronald Gordy and Mike Olerad served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Addis Gordy and Don Moore. Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife, Patricia Williams Cannon; step- daughters, Susie Moore, Ila, and Blanch Snelgrove, Hawkinsville; son, Benny Cannon, Nicholson; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Pat Cannon, Nashville, Tenn.; step-sons, Richard Bullard, Hull, Addis Gordy, Danielsville, and Paul Jackson, Clarksdale, Miss.; four grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bowles Mrs. Minnie Dell Leachman Bowles, 73, of Commerce, died Sunday, November 25, 2001, at her residence. Born in Jackson County on July 17, 1928, Mrs. Bowles was a daughter of the late George and Ella O'Kelly Leachman. She was a homemaker and was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Baptist Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Sam Dorsey, Mike Hudman and Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Mrs. Bowles is survived by her husband, Frank Bowles, Commerce; three sons, Carson Bowles, Commerce, Donald Bowles, Danielsville, and Steve Bowles, Salem, Ark.; four daughters, Deborah Biova, Dell Cowart and JoAnn Teatue, all of Commerce, and Peggy Hill, Maysville; two brothers, Curtis Leachman and Howard Leachman, both of Commerce; one sister, Maybell Wilkes, Hartwell; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Weise Mrs. Betty Epps Weise, 71, of Colbert, died Monday, November 26, 2001. A native of Madison County Mrs. Weise was a daughter of the late James Gordon and Mary Griffeth Epps. Mrs. Weise was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Weise. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Bill Ricketts and Dr. Tony Smith officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Debi Combs, Colbert, and Janice Scarborough, Statham; one son, Sam J. Scarborough Jr., Commerce; two sisters, Peggy E. Patton, Gainesville, and Pat Hughes, Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, H. Jackson Epps, Newnan; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Olshinski Mrs. Syble Holcomb Olshinski, 78, of Thomasville, N.C., died Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at Thomasville Medical Center. Mrs. Olshinski was born January 23, 1923, in Madison County, a daughter of Albert Edward Holcomb and Myrtle Bray Holcomb. She was a retired employee of Commercial Carving Co. Inc., Thomasville, and was formerly associated with Vogue Beauty Shop and House of Beauty in Thomasville. Mrs. Olshinski was a charter member of Our Lady Catholic Church, Thomasville, N.C., and was past president of the Gray Ladies volunteer group with the former City Memorial Hospital. On July 4, 1942, she was married to Matthew John Olshinski, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1994. She was a loving and devoted mom, said family members. Mrs. Olshinski was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Clendaniel. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, at Our Lady of the Highways Catholic Church with Father Thomas Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial was in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Friday, November 23, in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville, N.C. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, John and Judy Olshinski, Charleston, S.C., and Philip and Yana Olshinski, Douglas and Lynn Olshinski and Tim and Susan Olshinski, all of Thomasville, N.C.; son, Ronald Olshinski, of the home; sisters, Mrs. Edna Martin and Dorothy Williams, both of Commerce, and Georgia Bean, Thomasville, N.C.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Thornton Mrs. Mary Williams Thornton, 91, of Dallas, died Saturday, November 24, 2001, at Wellstar Paulding Nursing Home. A resident of Paulding County since 1942, Mrs. Thornton was born November 18, 1910, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late George Luther and Susie Ash Williams. Mrs. Thornton grew up in Neese until 10 years of age and moved to Danielsville. She was a supporter of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and the Bulldog Club. She was also a major supporter at the time Paulding Memorial Hospital was constructed. Mrs. Thornton began working for Billy Byrd in 1943, and later purchased Byrd Insurance Agency. She was a member of Dallas First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, Price Thornton, in 1984, and two sisters, Marcelene Reynolds, in 1971, and Myra Hardman, in 1985. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Dallas First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Ray officiating. Burial was in Dallas Memory Gardens. Music consisted of congregational singing, with pianist Charles Cole. Henry Wood, Dean Hardy, Ken Thigpen, Mike McKinney, Bill Hardman and David Williams served as pallbearers. Mrs. Thornton is survived by a brother, George Williams, Dallas; eight nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. Pace Mrs. Sarah Ann Pace, 66, of Nicholson, died Saturday, November 17, 2001. Born in Eddiewall County, Ala., Mrs. Pace was a daughter of the late Johnny Wesley and Mammie Odesa Ellis Strickland. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Pace was preceded in death by a son, Jessie Don Coleman. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, in the New Town Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Chuck Black officiating. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Ann Howell, Colbert; one son, Donald Coleman, Colbert; one brother, John W. Strickland, Commerce; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
