Thomas Mrs. Martha Kay Thomas, 80, of Commerce, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Thomas was born February 28, 1921, in Monroe County. She was a daughter of the late James Wallace and Mary McClain Kay. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a Friend of the Library. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Madison C. Thomas, and a sister, Carolyn McCall. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce with the Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating. Burial was in the Beaverdam Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include one son, James Thomas, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three daughters, Anna Diemond, Commerce, Caroline Miller, Destin, Fla., and Lindy Roberts, Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Billy Kay, Sandersville; one sister, Mary Frances Tyson, Augusta; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Stowers Mrs. Anne Bridges Stowers, 70, of Elberton, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Stowers was a daughter of the late Clint and Nancy Ray Bridges. She was a retired machine operator and inspector for the Hartwell Garment Company. Mrs. Stowers was a member of Coldwater United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Stowers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Coldwater United Methodist Church with the Revs. Stan Hamilton, Ben Sorrow and Wade Bridges officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Dyal, Elberton, and Teresa Gowder, Hartwell; one son, Ray Stowers, Hartwell; one sister, Era Bryant, Greenwood, S.C.; two brothers, Hugh Bridges and W.T. A native of Madison County, Mr. Eberhart was a son of the late Andrew Eberhart II and Annie Mae Smith, and was the adopted son of the late Willie Davis. He was a 1984 graduate of Clarke Central High School and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Eberhart was preceded in death by a daughter, Aaliyah Thomas. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack H. Kenny Jr. officiating. Mrs. Key was born April 25, 1912, a daughter of the late Isaiah Newton and Missourie Miller Lackey. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Key was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Key, and two sons, Marvin King and Robert King. Bonds, 81, of Homer, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness. A native of Banks County, Mr. Bonds was born May 6, 1920, a son of the late Oliver and Katie Bonds. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving as a medical specialist. While in service, Mr. Bonds received a Bronze Arrowhead Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, the American Theater Ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a retiree of Harmony Grove Mills, with 30 years of service, was a cattle farmer and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Bonds was preceded in death by his wife, Jurelle Hulsey Bonds, and a sister, Edith Bonds Dills. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Perry Smith officiating. Burial was in the Enon Baptist Church cemetery. Gordon Mrs. Mary Gladys Power Gordon, 85, of Danielsville, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston. Mrs. Gordon was born in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Charlie S. Power and the late Martha Ann Ward Power. She was a homemaker and was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, O. Scott Gordon, a son, James Wesley Gordon, a daughter, Sara Belle Gordon Bond, and 12 brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ray Jenkins, Dennis Kesler, John Swanger and Robbie Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gordon's grandsons, Kevin Rowe, Mike Gordon, Paul Gordon, Alan Bond, Wesley Gordon and Chris Haley, will serve as pallbearers. Survivors include three sons, Sammy Gordon, Charles Gordon and Wayne Gordon, all of Danielsville; one daughter, Ann Rowe, Danielsville; 12 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter. Allgood Mrs. Marjorie Lee Allgood, 71, of Decatur, died Saturday, May 26, 2001. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Allgood was a daughter of the late Martin Dewey and Mary Ardell Scoggins Webb. She was a resident of Decatur most of her adult life before moving to Eatonton in February of 2000. Mrs. Allgood was preceded in death by a brother, Royce Webb. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville. Burial was in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, Elberton. Chandler James Lee Chandler, 73, a U.S. Navy veteran, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Chandler was a son of the late Crawford Lee and Rosa Young Chandler. He served during World War II, and was owner and operator of Chandler's Bar-B-Que and Chandler's Rental Units. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in Evergreen Memorial Park. Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife, Betty McRorie Chandler; two sons, James Lee Chandler Jr., Daytona Beach, Fla., and John Crawford Chandler, Oviede, Fla.; one step-son, Richard McRorie, Athens; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
