Carnes Denver Floyd Carnes, 72, of Hartwell, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001. A native of Hart County, Mr. Carnes was a son of the late Levis G. Carnes and Laura Bryson Grant Carnes. He was retired from the Hart County Sheriff's Department and was a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, serving in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Carnes was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Hamby Carnes, and a son, Douglas Alan Carnes. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Meeks officiating. Survivors include three sisters, Sara Mae Byrum and Jackie White, Hartwell, and Patsy Martin, Anderson; four brothers, T.J. Carnes, Belton, Vincent Carnes, Hull, Charles Wilton Carnes, Washington, and Johnny Carnes, Hartwell; and a half-brother, Gartrell Carnes, Hartwell. A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Miss Morris was a daughter of James and Elizabeth Morris, Athens. She attended schools in Tifton and was an honor graduate of Jasper County High School in Monticello. Miss Morris was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Cohen Beasley, Elberton. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart Simms and Rachel Torrence officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Miss Morris' uncles, Joe Beasley, Wayne Beasley, Michael Beasley, Alfred Morris, Bunyan Morris and Edward McElhenney, served as pallbearers. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Wilkes was a daughter of the late Sam H. and Viola England Daniel. She was a lifelong resident of the Athens area and had been employed with A & A and Stones Bakeries. Mrs. Wilkes was a 50-year member of West End Baptist Church and the Whitworth Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Aubrey Wilkes. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at West End Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Elliott, Lee Hunter and Kevin Tiller officiating. Collins Onard Clem Collins, 85, of Comer, died Friday, June 29, 2001. A native of Whitfield County, Mr. Collins was a son of the late Clem Cathey and Ivie Lee Bridges Collins. He had been a resident of Madison County since 1918 and was retired from General Time. Mr. Collins attended Meadow Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada V. Shelton Collins. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Meadow Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Dooley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Swing and John P. Swing Jr., Comer; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Collins and Linda Slay Collins, Comer; sister, Dimple Coker, Blairsville; four grandchildren, Heather Collins, J.P. Kollen Mrs. Martha Anglin Kollen, 65, of Woodstock, died Monday, July 2, 2001. Mrs. Kollen was born May 2, 1936, in Fulton County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Susie Lord Anglin. She was self-employed in cleaning services and was of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Boggess officiating. Burial will be in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Boggess, Paris, France, and Betty Scearce, Kennesaw; one brother, Jimmy Anglin, Maysville; five sisters, Freada Baxter and Patricia Holt, both of Maysville, Nancy Roberts, Winterville, Mary Wade, Norcross, and Alice Whitener, Danielsville; and six grandchildren.
