Dyer Joe C. Dyer, 93, of Danielsville, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness. Born in White County on March 10, 1909, Mr. Dyer was the son of the late Joe and Maude Smith Dyer. He was a farmer and was a member of Full Gospel Holiness Church. Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife, Clifford Thomas Dyer, and a son, Charlie Dyer. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Full Gospel Holiness Church with the Revs. Lanier Tatum, Woodrow Hix and Stanley Dyer officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson. Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Hooper and Ethelene Meadows, both of Commerce; three sons, Hubert Dyer, Lula, Hershel Dyer, Commerce, and Dewey Dyer, Blacksburg, S.C.; 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Hunnicutt Matthew Elijah Hunnicutt, 32, of Winterville, formerly of Maysville, died Monday, June 10, 2002. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Hunnicutt was the son of Charles Emory Pruitt and Hazel Sanders Hunnicutt. He had attended Bible Baptist Christian School in Royston and was associated with Matthew’s Gifts and Design in Maysville. Mr. Hunnicutt was a member of Maysville Baptist Church, where he had served as pianist for two years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mamie and Arthur Sanders, Maysville, and Toy and Cleo Pruitt, Jefferson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Chad Rising officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Tony Pruitt, David Lee, Jeff Sanders, Bert Sanders, Darrin Cain and Johnny Pruitt will serve as pallbearers. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Melissa Cain, Loganville. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ----------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, June 12, 2002 Ralph Campbell Ralph Campbell, 66, of Gillsville, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Decatur following a brief illness. Born in Hall County on January 16, 1936, Mr. Campbell was the son of the late Homer Andrew and Lessie Stover Campbell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Stone Masonic Lodge #715. Mr. Campbell was also a member of Yaarab Shrine Temple Motor Corp, where he served as an executive aide, and a member of New Holland Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Early Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Paul Morris and James Early Campbell officiating. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Evelyn Parker Campbell, Gillsville; daughters, Sherryl Gillette, Newport News, Va., Karen Moore, Gillsville, Lena Blackburn, Cornelia, and Marie Morse, Comer; son, Jerry Whitfield, Gillsville; brothers, Arthur Rudolph Campbell and Odis Milton Campbell, both of Lula; sister, Lou Ella Wood, Gainesville; eight grandchildren; nephews, Jimmy Wood, Gainesville, Dean Campbell, Randolph Campbell Jr. and the Rev. Born August 4, 1918, in Franklin County, Mr. Brooks was the son of the late Omer A. and Adelide Abbott Brooks. He was a farmer and was a member of Middle River Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Phillips. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, in B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Rev. John Swanger and Barry Reese officiating. Burial was in the Middle River Baptist Church cemetery. Phillips Mrs. Pearlie Mae Allen Phillips, 91, of Colbert, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Phillips was born March 23, 1911, in Hart County, a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Lou Owens Allen. She was a homemaker and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a daughter, Leitha Gaines, and two sons, Harold and Thurmon Brooks. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Ralph Arnold and Marvin Steve George officiating. Burial was in the Middle River Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Phillips’ grandsons served as pallbearers. Mr. Witcher was preceded in death by a grandson, Jayden Lyneise Witcher. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in Smith Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Mike Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Hill Haven Cemetery, Monroe.
