Duncan Mrs. Jean Seawright Duncan, 72, of Royston, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mrs. Duncan was born in Hart County on April 30, 1930, a daughter of the late Charles P. and Cleora Gaines Seawright. She worked as a CNA with Brown Memorial Convalescent Center for 18 years and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bowman, where she was a member of the Joy Class. Her husband was the late Jack H. Duncan. Mrs. Duncan was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Tom, Larry and Jim Seawright. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Pritchett, Gary Thompson and Reggie Vaughn officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. James Kevin Duncan, Tommy Phillip Duncan, Michael Shane Duncan, Chad Ray Duncan, Joseph Neal Cheek, Jerico Stone, Brandon Allen Duncan, Joshua Allen Bennett, Justin Clete Duncan, Dustin Charles Duncan and Marlin Blake Bennett served as pallbearers. Johnson Mrs. Edith Marsh Johnson, 88, of Maysville, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce. Mrs. Johnson was born November 4, 1913, a daughter of the late William Wheeler and Minnie Morris Marsh. She was a homemaker and was a member of Talmage Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Monte Paul Johnson. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, with the Rev. Patton, 73, of Hull, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002. A native of Madison County, Mr. Patton was a son of the late Dewey and Ollie Brown Patton. He was a graduate of Madison County High School and retired from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Patton taught at UCLA before returning to this area, where he was employed with Smith Boley Brown, and most recently, Ivey and Company. He was a member of Hull Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Watkins, 71, of Athens, died Monday, May 13, 2002. A native of Madison County, Mr. Watkins was a son of the late John Willie and Blanche Drake Watkins. He was retired from A&P Food Store, with 36 years of service. Mr. Watkins was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Amvets Post 10 and the Moose Lodge. He was also a member of Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Revs. Robert Passmore, Buford Lockman and Kenneth Dillard officiating. He served 10 years in the U.S. Navy and was the owner and editor of The Hartwell Sun for 12 years. Mr. Bridges was a member of Norcross First United Methodist Church. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his step-mother, Sarah W. Thomas. A native of Carnesville, Mr. Davison was a son of the late Wilburn D. and Birchy Lee Hart Davison. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Davison was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the DAV and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Whitehead Jr., 79, of Commerce, formerly of Greenville, S.C., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Whitehead was a son of the late Clarence J. Sr. and Willie Hodge Whitehead. He was retired from the textile industry as senior vice-president of Harmony Grove Mill, Commerce, and from Woodside Mills, Fountain Inn, S.C. Mr. Whitehead was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Sixth Marine Division in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of Clemson University Class of 1951 and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Commerce. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, in Woodland Memorial Park, Greenville, S.C., with the Rev. Ron Davis officiating. Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife, Barbara Matthews Whitehead, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel E. and Susan R. Whitehead, Greenville, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Beth W. and Ray Mattox, Commerce; brothers, Billy M. Whitehead, Greenville, S.C., and Charles E.
