William H. Ginn The Rev. William Henry Ginn, 88, of Danielsville, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston. Born in Franklin County on February 24, 1914, Mr. Ginn was a son of the late James “Jimmy” Ginn and the late Lena Hart Ginn. The Rev. Ginn served as a minister for 32 years and was employed in the textile industry for 13 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ginn was preceded in death by four brothers, J.T. Ginn, George Ginn, Milton Ginn and James Ginn, and two sisters, Mattie Lou Ginn Atkinson and Mary Sue Ginn. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Evangelical Methodist Church with the Revs. Billie Frank Carey, Tim Peek, Lee Smith and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Everette Carey, Daryle Kirk, Winfred Carey, Malcolm Dove, Buddy Sexton, Joe B. Sartain, Thomas Dudley and Phil Crowe served as pallbearers. The Rev. Mr. Esco was a resident of Barrow County for most of his life. He worked for Stepan Chemical Company in Winder and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Carl. Mr. Esco was a son of the late Charlie and Lucy Esco Sr. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Larry Youngblood officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Mr. Esco is survived by his wife, Brenda Cummings Esco, Winder; one son, Richard Esco, Winder; one daughter, Cynthia Esco Loebl, Auburn; six sisters, Ann Esco and Linda Robertson, both of Hoschton, Patsy Maddox, Buford, Joyce Estelle Blocker, Jefferson, Kay Blocker, Carlton, and Shirley Sorrow, Elberton; two brothers, Terry Esco, Braselton, and Zeke Esco, Winder; and four grandchildren. Carson, 87, of Danielsville, died Thursday, March 14, 2002. A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Carson was a son of the late Clyde Lee and Ossie Lee Wilder Carson. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he was an Elder and served as Clerk of Session. Mr. Carson served as director of Madison County Resource, Conservation and Development, was former chairman of Madison County ASCS Committee for several years, served as past president of Farm Bureau, was Trustee of Ila School and was a former Democratic Committeeman. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Tim Peek officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery. Mrs. Crowe was born in Winnsboro, S.C., on April 8, 1927, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Edding Murphy. She was a former manager with McDermott’s Restaurant and was a Home Health Care worker. Mrs. Crowe was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Coile Crowe, and a son, Jimmy Anderson Crowe. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Revs. Glenn Guest, George Lovely and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Holcomb Mrs. Edna Jewell McCarty Holcomb, 89, of Valkaria, Fla., formerly of Danielsville, died Monday, March 11, 2002. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Holcomb was a daughter of the late Robert and Eva McCarty. She was a homemaker and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. “Her enjoyment of life came from caring for her family, as well as cooking, gardening and quilting,” said family members. She was married to the late Curtis Holcomb for 68 years. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include four sons, Robert Holcomb, Gainesville, Alton Holcomb, Lilburn, Hoyt Holcomb, Toccoa, and Hugh Holcomb, Lawrenceville; four daughters, Ruth Merwin and Mary Jo Summerford, both of Largo, Fla., Joyce Willard, Knoxville, Tenn., and Jane Gerhart, Valkaria, Fla.; one sister, Roberta Smith, Danielsville; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James Cheek, two grandsons, James Ray Cheek and Charles Melvin Cheek Jr., four sisters, Maude Passmore, Elsie Grizzle, Gladys Grizzle and Pauline Hambrick, and a brother, Huntley Gaddis. Manns Mrs. Carol Adams Manns, 52, of Jersey Shore, Penn., died Sunday, March 10, 2002. A native of Athens, Mrs. Manns was a daughter of Clyde and Rachel Adams, Colbert. She was a graduate of Athens High School and had been a resident of Jersey Shore since 1986. Mrs. Manns was an office manager with Servants P.C. Resources, Lock Haven, Penn., and was a member of Mountain View Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she was the youth ministry advisor and young adult Sunday School teacher. Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Colbert City Cemetery with the Rev. Edgar L. Manns officiating. Mrs. Manns is survived by her husband, Edgar Manns; one daughter, Erin Kendall, Williamsport, Penn.; two brothers, Steve Adams, Athens, and Terry Adams, Colbert; two grandchildren, one niece and nephews.
