Casper Mrs. Johnnie Rice Davis Casper, 65, of Danielsville, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Casper was born in Jackson County on October 22, 1936, a daughter of the late John Henry and Mamie Lee Watson Davis. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Casper is survived by her husband, William “Red” Casper, Danielsville; three sons, Mark Rice, Ila, and Jeff Rice and Grayson Casper, both of Danielsville; two daughters, Paula Caudell, Danielsville, and Wendy Guntharp, Ila; one brother, Bob Davis, Royston; one sister, Judy Cagle, Hull; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A lifelong resident of Watkinsville, Mrs. Morris was the daughter of the late Buford and Grace Irene Phillips. Mrs. Morris was a homemaker and was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church, Watkinsville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Grady Gene Phillips. Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Revs. Odell Elrod and Bob Murphy officiating. Luther Fouche officiating. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mae Porterfield Smith, Athens; one sister, Rachel Adams, Royston; one brother, Otis A. Smith, Hartwell; and several nieces and nephews. Jones Mrs. Ethel Sara Sanders Jones, 89, of Hartwell, died Sunday, May 19, 2002. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Colquitt H. and Emma Vickery Sanders. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Hartwell Senior Center. Mrs. Jones was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cleo Jones, and a son, Harold Clarence “H.C.” Jones. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Hulon Bryant and Terry Meeks officiating. Burial was in the New Prospect Baptist Church cemetery. Strickland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, May 22, 2002 Joseph “Joe” Pollard Joseph Theron “Joe” Pollard, 76, of Comer, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mr. Pollard was born in Smithfield, N.C., on February 26, 1926, a son of the late Carl Louis Pollard and Victoria Evans Pollard. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to LaGrange, N.C., where he attended school until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Being in the military meant he needed a third name, thus the Joseph was added. He and Elease Hayes were married June 6, 1958, and they lived in the Atlanta area until his transfer to Charlotte, N.C. There he retired from Allison-Erwin Company after 38 years of service. Mr. Pollard was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys P. Casey. “Joe has been blessed with general good health most of his 76 years; however for some time now, the Alzheimer’s disease has robbed him of his thinking and memory capabilities,” said family members. “Complications of this disease and a heart condition contributed to his death. May his soul rest in peace.” Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Henry Shelton and Layman Margaret Britt officiating. Burial was in the Rice Creek Church cemetery. Keith Seymour, Mark Olson, Russell Olson, Trint Baird, Tom Langley and Danny Walker served as pallbearers. Mr. Pollard is survived by his wife, Elease Hayes Pollard, Comer; and one sister, Margaret Britt, Forest Park. Allen, 84, of Colbert, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Allen was a daughter of the late Eugene Barnett and Lila Johnson. She was the wife of the late Jasper Allen Sr. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and was a member of Waggoner’s Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Waggoner’s Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy L. Thomas Sr., Harvey Peek and Donald E. Bryant officiating. He was the husband of the late Martha Looney Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
