Mr. Schlock was born in Hart County on December 30, 1937, a son of the late Joe Mackeral and Vera Rozelle Schlock. Mr. Schlock was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial was in Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Larry Vaughn, Charles Schlock, Saan Teasley, Mike Norris, Bruce Teasley and Shannon Teasley served as pallbearers. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Warren, Valdosta, and Jacquelyn Fogle, Orangeburg, S.C.; one sister, Frances Hill, Athens; one brother, Mack Schlock, Elberton; and three grandchildren. Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. --------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, December 25, 2002 Eiko Garner Mrs. Eiko Kubota Garner, 69, of Canon, died Thursday, December 19, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Garner was born in Japan on June 19, 1933. She was a daughter of the late Ruzo and Shizue Kubota. A homemaker, Mrs. Garner had lived in Franklin County for 30 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Takeo Kubota and Torou Kubota. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 22, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Paul Creason and Larry Finger officiating. Mrs. Garner is survived by her husband, James Allen Garner, Canon; son and daughter-in-law, James Anthony and Kimberly Garner, Great Falls, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Garner and Michael G. Skoglund, Hartwell; daughters, Cassandra Garner Cook and Donna Garner Smith, both of Athens; grandchildren, Cortney L. Evans, Jennifer L. Cook, Brannan L. Certain, Erin Garner, Evan G. Elston Jr. George William Elston Jr., 77, of Gillsville, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville. Born June 15, 1925, in Marion County, Ind., Mr. Elston was a son of the late George William Elston Sr. and Bertha Mae Bartley Elston. He was a member of Peachtree Corner Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Elston was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Cleveland. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19, in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery, Lula, with the Rev. John Wood officiating. Mr. Elston is survived by his wife, Faye Highsmith Elston, Gillsville; two sons, Blake Elston and George William Elston III, both of Gillsville; one daughter, Cheryl Sanders, Gillsville; one brother, Richard D. Elston, Plant City, Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Nichols, 76, of Nicholson, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in York County, S.C., on September 24, 1926, Mr. Nichols was the son of the late Teal Caldwell and Beulah Smith Nichols. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clover, S.C. Mr. Nichols was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Hulon Hill officiating. Mrs. Brown was born May 20, 1905, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Daniel J. Wheeler Sr. and Bernice Doss Wheeler. She was a retired school teacher and was retired from Blue Bell. Mrs. Brown was a member of Oconee Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Brown, and a son, Bill J. Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of Moon’s Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Meadow was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Meadow, and three sons, George Meadow, Jimmy Meadow and Grover Meadow. She was the wife of the late Henry O. Smith. Mrs. Smith had been employed in retail sales with Jeanette Fashion Boutique, Athens, and was a member of Ila Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman L. Thomas and Bobby H. Thomas. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 23, at Ila Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Fite officiating.
