Mr. Guest was born in Athens on April 12, 1956. He was the fifth child born to Ruth and Harville Guest, Danielsville. Mr. Guest was a retired automobile mechanic and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with Pastor Jim Stuchell officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. Mr. Guest’s nephews served as pallbearers. Gibson Jr. James Aubrey Gibson Jr., 63, of Jefferson, died Sunday, September 22, 2002, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Gibson was born November 18, 1938, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late James A. and Sally Belle Damron Gibson. He retired from ABB after 33 years of service and was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson was also a member of I.B.E.W. He was the grandson of A.G. and Mary Dottery Gibson and was preceded in death by a brother, John Gordan Gibson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Ronnie Healan, Charles Crabbe and Jesse Mealor officiating. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Compton was a daughter of Nelson and Virginia Pierce Mize, of the Vanna Community. She was an employee of the Department of Labor. Mrs. Whitehead was an active Relay For Life participant and a member of Temple Methodist Church. Greenway Mrs. Gladys Lois Greenway, 85, of Danielsville, died Friday, September 20, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Greenway was born in Franklin County on October 18, 1916. She was a daughter of the late Elisha Mason and Mary Elizabeth Norris Patterson. Mrs. Greenway was retired from BJC Nursing Home and was a member of the Commerce Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Wayne Kitchens, a daughter, Kathleen Coker, and a son, J.C. Kitchens. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 22, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Curtis Hammond officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Mr. Youngblood was born in Franklin County on September 28, 1927. He was a son of the late Paul Youngblood Sr. and the late Annie Ruth Chastain Youngblood Hill. Mr. Youngblood was retired from the shipping department of Dixie Yarns and was a member of Faith Valley Holiness Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served four years. Mr. Youngblood also served four years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was the last member of his immediate family, with two brothers, Fred and Tench Youngblood, preceding him in death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 20, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Johnny Stowe and Jonathan Swing officiating. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of the late William Bud Smith and Alice Bruce Smith. She was retired from Mary Lilly Cotton Mill. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Vester Lee Fowler, and two sons, J.T. Fowler and Carl Edward Fowler. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September, 24, at Edwards Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Lee Hammond officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Smith Mrs. Pauline Elizabeth Stone Smith, 93, of Royston, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mrs. Smith was born in Madison County on February 26, 1909, a daughter of the late William Edmond Stone and the late Mary Sue Cromer Stone. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was involved in all church activities. Mrs. Smith served as church pianist and as an Adult Sunday School Teacher for 45 years. She was also a member of the U.M.W. Mrs. Smith wrote the Cromer’s Mill news section for local papers for many years and was a member of the Fifty Plus Club. Her husband was the late Mallie N. Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Grady Smith, a brother, Jerome Stone, and two sisters, Verona Hughes and Janie Gregory. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Earl Goode officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bridges Russell Noell Bridges, of Comer, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Bridges was born April 14, 1950. He was the son of Lindsey and Isabell Bridges. A believer in Christ, Mr. Bridges was of the Baptist denomination. He was employed for over 30 years with ABB, formerly Westinghouse, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, NASCAR fanatic and a devoting father and companion. True to his favorite saying, “We ride out of here at high noon.” A service, celebrating his life, was held at noon Saturday, September 21, at Comer Baptist Church with Jerry Ediger officiating. Burial was in the Moon’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Glenn Spratlin, Mike Benson, Roger Thrasher, David Adams, Melvin Adams and Robert Chandler served as pallbearers. Mr. Bridges is survived by many loved ones, family and friends, including his immediate family, Marilyn J. Bridges, Heather, Erin, Rachel, Christopher, Michael, Haley and Chloe; son-in-law, Glenn Spratlin; grandson, Glenn Spratlin II; brothers, Wallace Bridges and Leon Bridges; sister, Frances Hammond; brother-in-law, Bill Hammond; and sisters-in-law, Clydean Bridges and Cornelia Bridges.
