Haggard Mell Verner Haggard, 86, of Danielsville, died Monday, March 25, 2002. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Haggard was a son of the late Samuel Grey and Mattie Jane Lord Haggard. He was a farmer, a bus driver with the Madison County School System, with 26 years of service, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Ila Cemetery with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Brad Snelling, Brian Snelling, Clint Haggard, Russell Haggard, Tommy Haggard and Eddie Martin served as pallbearers. Mr. Haggard is survived by his wife, Mattie Lou Pettit Haggard; son, John Haggard, Danielsville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Becky Haggard, Hull; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Sue and Charlie Snelling, Macon; four grandchildren, Brad Snelling, Brian Snelling, Clint Haggard and Russell Haggard; one great-grandchild, Hannah Snelling; and several nieces and nephews. Fitzpatrick Mrs. Frances Louise Seagraves Fitzpatrick, 84, of Commerce, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Fitzpatrick was born March 31, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Volia Allen Seagraves. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was retired from Harmony Grove Mills and was a member of Rogers Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Fitzpatrick, a son, Lamar Fitzpatrick, and a daughter, Judy Standridge. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Rogers Baptist Church with the Revs. Carlton Peters and Wendell Hanley officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery. Welborn Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hardekopf Welborn, 63, of Bowman, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Hart County Hospital, Hartwell. Mrs. Welborn was born in Beckemeyer, Ill., on March 4, 1939. She was a daughter of the late Otto and Mabel Hardekopf. Mrs. Welborn was a retired seamstress with Colbert Manufacturing Company and was a member of Vineyards Creek Baptist Church. Born December 16, 1936, Mr. Hendrix was a son of Flora Nicholson Hendrix, Royston, and the late Tom B. Hendrix. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Harrison McCrary V.F.W. Post #4828. Mr. Hendrix was also a member of Royston Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. She was a machine operator in the textile industry and was a member of Rice Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Dickerson was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dickerson, two brothers, Alton Alewine and Fred Alewine Jr., and a sister, Opal Alewine Carter. She had been employed in the textile industry with Comer Manufacturing and was a member of Bethel M Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Henry B. Smith. Dixon Mrs. Annie Lou Scarboro Dixon, 91, of Royston, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Brown Memorial Convalescent in Royston. Mrs. Dixon was born in Madison County on February 11, 1911, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Agnes Booth Scarboro. She had worked as a salesperson with Scarboro’s Dress Shop and was a member of New Bethel Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wesley Dixon, a son, James Dixon, and a sister, Carrie Lee Rousey. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Malcolm Herndon and Larry Kaiser officiating. Burial was in the New Bethel Holiness Church cemetery. Mrs. Dixon’s grandsons served as pallbearers. Born February 29, 1920, in Georgia, Mr. Elrod was a son of the late Lee and Eula Davis Elrod. He was a retired carpenter with O.S. Garrison Lumber and was the founder and a member of the Homer Church of God. He also attended Redstone Methodist Church. Mr. Elrod was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Nations Elrod, and his second wife, Fannie Clark Elrod. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Doug Conwell officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Athens. Mrs. Williams was born in Franklin County on April 5, 1925, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Lillie Mae Rich. She was a homemaker and care giver and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Williams was the wife of the late Howard Williams. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Helen Williams, two sisters, Bonnie Lowery and Trilla Mae Cromer, and a brother, Oscar Rich. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Earl Goode and Carol Fox officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Ayers was born August 13, 1925, a son of Mrs. Maymer Roberson Ayers, Hartwell, and the late Fred W. Ayers. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1974, with 22 years of service, having received the Army Accommodation Medal. Mr. Ayers was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Maxwell Ayers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Rehoboth Baptist Church, Bowman, with the Revs. Richard Bradfield and Mike Sullivan officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.
