Wilson Mrs. Ruby Lee Wilson, 80, of Colbert, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Wilson lived in the Athens and Colbert areas most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Lonie and Clara Miller Gillen. Mrs. Wilson was a retired seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Thomas Wilson. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, in Arnoldsville Cemetery with Evangelist Jeff Hart and the Rev. Charles Elrod officiating. Survivors include four sons, Bobby Wilson and Billy Wilson, both of Hull, Tommy Wilson, Commerce, and Johnny Wilson, Center; two daughters, Joanne Marable, Hull, and Nancy Scogin, Colbert; one sister, Mozelle Cowart, Athens; three brothers, Sam Gillen, Bogart, Henry Gillen, Watkinsville, and Bill Gillen, Diamond Hill; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Wilson Sr. Harry James Wilson Sr., 62, of Commerce, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. Born August 30, 1939, in Baltimore County, Md., Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Charles Earl and Bertha Wilson. He was retired from Folks Restaurant and was of the Baptist denomination. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Carlton Peters officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Julia Dobbs Wilson, Commerce; two sons, Charles Earl Wilson III, Jefferson, and Harry James Wilson Jr., England; one daughter, Donna Green, Commerce; one step-son, Raymond Dobbs; two brothers, Carroll Wilson and Scott Wilson, both of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Elva Chachulski and Marilyn Heacock, both of Baltimore, Md., and Verna Kasarda, Fayetteville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Watson was the daughter of the late Berry Eston and Ada Lucy King Hall. She was retired from Colbert Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Word of Life Church in Colbert. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, James Odell Watson, a grandson, Donald Ray Watson Jr., four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Word of Life Church with the Revs. Herman Nation and Roland Arrowwood officiating. Burial was in Colbert Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Loretta Watson, Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Inez Watson, Marietta, J.C. and Brenda Watson and Donald and Barbara Watson, all of Colbert, and Larry and Jackie Watson, Mableton; 13 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. Hubacek Douglass Earl “Doug” Hubacek, 68, of Gillsville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Mr. Hubacek was born September 12, 1933, in Limestone County, Texas. He was a son of the late Virginia Douglass Hubacek Means, Gillsville, and Charlie J. Hubacek, Alvin, Texas. Mr. Hubacek attended school in San Diego, Calif., and graduated from San Diego High School in 1950. He was employed with Decca Association as a manager of Blue Trace Groves in West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. Hubacek retired in 1996 and returned to his home in Gillsville. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Hubacek was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating. Mr. Hubacek is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sue Ford Hubacek; daughters and sons-in-law, Terresa and Jeff Shubert, Commerce, and Dione and Sam Massey, Dacula; three grandchildren, Derick Blalock and Madison and Andrew Massey; and several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Wiley F. and Lily Mae Phillips Phillips. He lived most of his life in Madison County and was of the Holiness denomination. Mr. Phillips was retired from the University of Georgia as a maintenance supervisor, and was also a school bus driver with Danielsville and Ila School systems. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny E. Phillips, two sisters, Gertie Mae Fowler and Jessie Mae Phillips, a brother, Jasper Phillips, and a sister-in-law, Lucille Phillips. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Ardis Anglin officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mr. Phillips’ nephews served as pallbearers. Whitworth James Dorsey Whitworth, 88, of Toccoa, died Sunday, June 30, 2002. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Whitworth was a son of the late A.G. and Myrtie Garner Whitworth. He was retired from WABCO and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr. Whitworth was a member of the American Legion and the Monday Morning Coffee Club. He was also a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church, where he was a teacher and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, Brotherhood and the church choir. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Miller and Clarence Davis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Sammy Lee officiating. Mr. Whitworth is survived by his wife, Vera Adams Whitworth; two daughters, Nelda Whitworth, Colbert, and Sharon Whitworth, Toccoa; one sister, Eleanor Howard, Rome; two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Alford Jack Dennis Alford, 42, of Danielsville, died Friday, June 28, 2002. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Alford was a son of Rosetta Garrett Hardigree, Commerce, and the late Jack Alford. Mr. Alford was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Jefferson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Alford. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Barbara Alford; two daughters, Crystal Alford and Scarlett Alford, of the home; one son, Kenny Alford, Hartwell; and one sister, Marsha Alford, Athens.
