A long time resident of Madison County, Mr. Middlebrook was born in Jefferson County of Birmingham, Ala., and was the son of the late Lawrence H. Sr. and Mary Arnold Middlebrook. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Madison County Government. Mr. Middlebrook was a member of Moon’s Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the John H. Jones Masonic Lodge No. 348, Danielsville. He was preceded in death by a son, John Martin Middlebrook, and a grandson, William Middlebrook Jr. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31, at Moon’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Michael Cleveland, Mike Burroughs, Jim Watson, Kevin Rowe, Jeff Dillard and Steve Allen, dear friends of Mr. Middlebrook, served as pallbearers. Mr. Middlebrook is survived by his wife, Zelma Holman Middlebrook; son, Lawrence Charles Middlebrook, Lawrenceville; son and daughter- in-law, William Eugene and Carol Middlebrook, Dunwoody; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Dabbs was born March 4, 1931, in Franklin County, Tenn. He was a son of the late James W. and Bertha M. Dabbs. Mr. Dabbs was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church, Commerce. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, at Madison Street Baptist Church with the Revs. David Harbin, Stuart Lang and Mike Sarna officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Thomas Dabbs, Commerce; three daughters, Tina Bennett, Commerce, Debbie Klar, Lawrenceville, and Susie Sarna, Comer; three brothers, Eddie Dabbs and Lewis Dabbs, both of Asheboro, N.C., and Jim Dabbs, South Carolina; three sisters, Carolyn Browder, Kingsport, Tenn., Elaine Lane, Sumter, S.C., and Chris Nixon, Asheboro, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Coile, 94, of Winterville, died Thursday, August 29, 2002. Born in Oglethorpe County, Mr. Coile was a son of the late William Benjamin and Hulda Strickland Coile. He was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing. Mr. Coile was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Simmons Coile. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Burial was in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery, Comer. Cline Mrs. Hazel Bryant Cline, 77, of Bowman, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Cline was born in Elbert County on March 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Wilburn and Mabell Smith Bryant. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Cline was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Cline, a sister, Hilda Williams, and three brothers, Willis, Walton and Clyde Bryant. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Willard Crider and Darrell Gilmer officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Colvard was the son of the late David Nelms Colvard and Minnie Lee Maynard Colvard. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson, but was attending Madison Street Baptist Church in Commerce. Mr. Colvard was retired from Roper Pump Company and the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Ann Colvard. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. David Harbin and Stuart Lang and grandson, Nick Colvard, officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Mr. Colvard is survived by his wife and companion of almost 61 years, Edna Morrow Colvard; his children, Susan and Robert Colvard, Barbara and Tom Davis and Janet and Randall Colvard, all of Hull, Betty and Jimmy Lyle, Winder, and Sandra Colvard, Jefferson; grandchildren, Durin and Jim Eberhart and Brian Davis, all of Athens, Wendy and Jimmy Chambers, Jefferson, Tammy and Ron Hester, Commerce, Julie and Russ Davis and Nick Colvard, all of Hull, and Renee and Carey Cooper, Winder; great-grandchildren, Sam Eberhart, Hunter Cooper, Mitchel Chambers, Tom Eberhart and Megan Davis; sister, Kathleen Colvard Smith; and a number of very special nieces and nephews. “He was blessed with many friends,” said family members. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Amory Williams. He was a retired railroad worker and a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tenn., where he served as a deacon. Mr. Appling was a former member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Comer. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 2, at Springfield Baptist Church with the Revs. S.A. Bishop and Joseph Wrights officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tenn.
