Mr. Adams was born in Madison County on June 3, 1937, a son of the late Anderson Ezra and Ruth Kirk Adams. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was the owner and operator of Adams Clover Farm Store. Mr. Adams was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Adams Minish. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Calvin Coile officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Lamar Evans, Nelson Nash, James Minish, Ricky Dalton, Billy audell and Brian Kirk served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ellis Nash, Edwin Kirk, Eugene Minish, J.D. Miller, Franklin Fortson, Charlie Coile, Howard Minish and Clarence Hall. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Joan Dalton Adams, Danielsville; one son, Nick Adams, Danielsville; one daughter, Carla Adams, Birmingham, Ala.; and two nieces. Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, February 6, 2002 Azalee Freeman Mrs. Azalee Burroughs Freeman, 79, of Royston, formerly of Danielsville, died Sunday, February 3, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Freeman was born in Madison County on January 31, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Earl and Roxie Bone Burroughs. Mrs. Freeman was a homemaker and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Clinton Freeman, and a son, Franklin Burroughs Freeman. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Albert Vaughn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Taylor Mrs. Trudy Dawn Thompson Taylor, 58, of Athens, died Sunday, February 3, 2002. A native of Athens, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late Eugene and Pauline Yarbrough Thompson. She was a former member of Hull Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Busha Mrs. Grace Fulbright Busha, 73, of Carnesville, died Saturday, February 2, 2002, at Lanier Park Regional Hospital, Gainesville. Born May 17, 1928, in Franklin County, Mrs. Busha was a daughter of the late Jesse L. and Clemmie Andrews Bell. She was retired from Carwood Manufacturing and was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Busha was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen Fulbright, and her second husband, Sanford Busha. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Robert L. Hill, Roger McCoy and Stacy Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Indian Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include one son, Jackie Fulbright, Carnesville; two daughters, Sarah Carlan, Lula, and Frances Segars, Commerce; two step-daughters, Bobbie Banks, Carnesville, and Sarah Mabry, Maysville; one brother, Edward Bell, Commerce; three sisters, Agnes Bennett, Ila, Gladys Catalano, Homer, and Louise Pruitt, Commerce; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, February 6, 2002 Jan Byram Mrs. Jan Byram, 53, of Carlton, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002. A native of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Byram was a daughter of the late Clyde Emel and Marjorie Harris Zarillo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Emel. A 1970 graduate of the University of Maryland, she had been employed as a physical therapist in New Jersey, Savannah and the Gilbert Health Center at the University of Georgia. In 1981, Mrs. Byram left her career to begin a family. Her son, Benjamin, was born in 1982, David in 1985, and Matthew in 1987. ³She resided on a farm in Oglethorpe County since 1978, and was completely devoted to her God, family, animals and land,² said family members. ³Baptized into Christ on October 9, 1994, she was a member of the International Church of Christ. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially as a compassionate, forgiving, loving wife and mother. ³She was a person who was always ready to help others,² family continued. ³We could not have asked for a more loving and caring mother. Mom, we will always love you and forever miss you. She was gone too soon.² Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 1, at the Classic Center in Athens. Mrs. Stowe was born February 24, 1926, in Bibb County to the late Henry Verlin Bray and the late Viola Breedlove Bray. She was preceded in death by her husband, James William Stowe. Collins Harold Dean Collins, 43, of Braselton, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at Haven House Hospice, Atlanta. Mr. Collins was the son of Ed and Helen S. Collins, Braselton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, G.J. and Essie Stinchcomb, Asa Collins and Guy and Mae Cooper. Hughes James Herman Hughes, of Milledgeville, died Monday, January 28, 2002. A native of Walker County, Mr. Hughes was a son of the late Glenn and Charslise Owens Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Sue Canada Hughes, and a son, Jeffery Glenn Hughes. Mr. Hughes owned and operated Hughes Nursery for a number of years before retirement. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Joy Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. George Palmer and Chris Carpenter officiating. James, 61, died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala, Fla., following a short illness. Ms. James was born on June 10, 1940, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Lucas) James. Ms. James grew up on a farm in Royston. As her father¹s career was the Navy, she, with her mother, brothers and sisters, had the responsibility of the farm. Here she learned the benefits of hard work and dependability, traits that would mark her for the rest of her life. When she was 12 years of age, her family moved to Lotz, Fla., and soon after that move her father died. Later, following her mother¹s remarriage to Alfred ³Dutch² Thomas, the family moved to Tampa, Fla., where she attended Junior, and later graduated from Senior High School. She was elected beauty queen and worked for a time as a model for a local clothing store. Later in life, Ms. James worked as a nurse¹s assistant for a doctor, and following her move to Abilene in 2000, assisted in the opening and operation of Partner¹s Barbeque in Talmage, Kan. In May of 1957, she was united in marriage with Richard Thompson. They had four children, one daughter and three sons. Eventually, the couple divorced. ³Arleen was a very kind and generous lady, giving much love and support to her extended family in times of illness or stress,² said family members. ³She loved to travel, garden, especially flower gardening, little children and the Lord. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and her well marked Bibles filled with notes in her own handwriting give testimony to her faith in and love for her Savior. She gave testimony to her faith in Christ through her Baptism on September 22, 1963, at Maranja Baptist Church, Maranja, Fla.² A memorial service was held in Ocala, Fla., on Monday, January 28, and her memorial service in Kansas was held on Friday, February 1, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Burial was in the Abilene Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Charlene Smith, Colbert; three sons, Rick Thompson Jr., Abilene, Kan., James Edward Thompson, Ft. Bragg, N.C., and Oneal Edward Thompson, Cleveland; three sisters, Harriett Gonzales and Debbie Kirkpatrick, both of Tampa, Fla., and Cheryl Lee, Comer; and one brother, Oneal James, Toccoa. Ms. James is also survived by her mother, Eleanor Thomas, Tampa, Fla., whom she was visiting at the time of her death. Ten grandchildren and other relatives also survive together with many friends. -------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, February 6, 2002 Gerri Crump Mrs. Geraldine ³Gerri² Drake Crump, 59, of Carnesville, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center, Anderson, S.C. Born December 6, 1942, in Madison County, Mrs. Crump was a daughter of the late George W. and Reba Brooks Drake. She was a homemaker and was an active supporter of the Carnesville Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Crump was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Rev. Michael Bell officiating. Burial was in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery. Members of the Carnesville Volunteer Fire Department served as pallbearers. Mrs. Crump is survived by her husband, James W. ³Jim² Crump; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lucy Ayers, Hartwell; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jerry Gober, Hull, and Alisa and Preston Massey, Hartwell; grandchildren, Jeniece Gober, Jared Massey, Jenna Gober, Jamie Massey, Scott Ayers and Coty Ayers; brother, Tracy Drake, Spartanburg, S.C.; and sister, Mary D.
