Nelms George D. Nelms, 89, of Danielsville, died Friday, August 2, 2002. Mr. Nelms was born in Elbert County on July 11, 1913, the son of the late John Dalton Nelms and the late Sallie Daisy McConnell Nelms. He was a retired farmer and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Nelms was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, in Danielsville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jerome Hill officiating. Mr. Nelms is survived by his wife, Sallie Scarboro Nelms, Danielsville; daughters, Carolyn Dove, Danielsville, and Sally Dixon, Greenwood, S.C.; sister, Frances Brown, Comer; four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. A sister, Pauline Coile, Comer, passed away on Saturday, August 3. Mrs. Coile was born February 17, 1928, in Elbert County. She was a daughter of the late John Dalton Nelms and the late Sallie Daisy McConnell Nelms. She was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing as a machine operator and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Coile was preceded in death by a brother, George D. Nelms, Danielsville, who died Friday, August 2. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Willard Crider and Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Coile is survived by her husband, Dabney Coile, Comer; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lisa Coile, Comer; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Brent Crider, Comer; sister, Frances Brown, Comer; grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Coile, Andy Coile, Justin Crider and Christa Crider; great-grandchild, Harley Coile; and several nieces and nephews. Phillips Mrs. Lucille Collins Phillips, 70, of Royston, died Saturday, August 3, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mrs. Phillips was born in Stephens County on February 14, 1932, a daughter of the late Isom and Lila Jane Morgan Collins. She was retired from Westclock and was a private duty nurse. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert L. Phillips, two step-sons, C.L. Phillips and Randy C. Phillips, a brother, Ira Collins, and a sister, Beatrice Fowler. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, August 5, at Zidon Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Thomas and Gary Osteen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Sorrow Miss Gloria Elizabeth Sorrow, 34, of Danielsville, died Sunday, August 4, 2002. Miss Sorrow was born in Jackson County, a daughter of Dabney Gholston and Sarah Lee Fortson Sorrow. She was employed with Carrier Transicold and attended Bluestone Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, at Bluestone Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Randell Smith, Gene Sorrow, Joshewa Alexander, Brandon Sexton, Greg Hannah and Royce Parten served as pallbearers. Miss Sorrow is survived by her parents, three sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Jack Smith. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church for 49 years. She was also a member of the Marion Coile Sunday School Class. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Patton was a son of the late John H. and Inez Meeler Patton. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, with 35 years of service. Mr. Patton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War, and helped organize the first Little League baseball and football teams in Oconee County. He was a charter member of Living Word Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and an adult Sunday School teacher. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Larry Davison officiating. Jeff Arthur, Gary Arthur, Sam Dickson, Greg Dillard, Brian Shore and Scott Sims served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Living Word Baptist Church. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Dove was a son of Hazel Brown Dove, Elberton, and the late Hershel Dove. He was a granite polisher and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3, in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. David McConnell officiating.
