Smallwood Theron L. Smallwood, 72, of Danielsville, died Thurs-day, October 3, 2002, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce. Mr. Smallwood was born December 14, 1929, in White County, a son of the late Howell and Montine Dailey Smallwood. He was retired from Westinghouse, where he worked as a coil winder. Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by his wife, Ladine Looney Smallwood. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Survivors include two sons, Leon Smallwood, Hull, and Randy Smallwood, Homer; one daughter, Sandra J. Maney, Danielsville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nicholson Mrs. Jacqueline Elaine Wilkenson Nicholson, 51, of Commerce, died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. Mrs. Nicholson was born March 18, 1951, in Marion County, Ind. She was a daughter of Ruth Greene Wilkenson, Indianapolis, Ind., and the late Warren Wilkenson. She was retired from Lucent Technology/OFS and was a member of Homer Church of God. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Ralph Goss officiating. Burial was in the New Salem United Methodist Church cemetery, Commerce. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Gilbert Nicholson, Commerce; three sons, Aaron Daniel, Darren Daniel and Eric Daniel, all of Commerce; two step-sons, Russell Nicholson, Westminster, S.C., and Shane Nicholson, Gainesville; one step-daughter, Gail Looney, Jefferson; two brothers, Jay Wilkenson and Randy Wilkenson, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; and eight grandchildren. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Whitsel was a son of the late Asbury and Lera Roberts Whitsel. He was a farmer and was a resident of the area for over 25 years. Mr. Whitsel was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Elizabeth Ginn Whitsel, and a daughter, Cathy Scoggins. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Douglas Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Colliers Baptist Church cemetery. Ward Mrs. Maebell Morris Ward, 83, of Commerce, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Alzheimer’s Care, Commerce, following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Banks County, Mrs. Ward was the daughter of the late John Morris and Lucy Hubbard Morris. She was a homemaker and was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Ward, a son, William Ward, and two brothers, Russell Morris and Hollis Morris. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Revs. Swayne Carlan and Harvey Smith officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Methodist Church cemetery. Adams Harold Dean Adams, 67, of Center, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Adams was born December 26, 1934, in Lakewells, Fla. He was a son of the late Alvin Reuben and Winnie Lucille Harvey Adams. Mr. Adams was the owner of Adams Tile & Terrezzo Contractors and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Cryptside services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, with Guy Larkins officiating. Brant Adams, Josh Adams, Seth Adams, Cody David, Dustin David, Corey Jones and Joseph Jones served as pallbearers. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, LaRue Barber Adams, Nicholson; sons, Reuben Adams and Scott Adams, both of Center; daughters, Kay David and Kim David, both of Center, and Cindy Jones, Madison County; brothers, Jerry Adams, Center, and Melvin Adams, Dalton; sisters, Wynelle Gustin and Sherry Lee, both of Center; 19 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Forehand Retired Tift Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge William J. Forehand, 84, died Monday, September 23, 2002, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. Judge Forehand grew up in Sylvester, Ga., and was the son of the late Judge and Mrs. William Clyde Forehand. He attended GMC in Milledgeville, and graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Judge Forehand later received a law degree from Atlanta Law School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force. Funeral services were held Friday, September 27, at the First Baptist Church of Tifton, with Drs. Wayne Roe and W. Chase Smith III officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Blanche Forehand, Augusta; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Benjamin Dover, Marietta; sisters, Sara F. Matthews, Satellite Beach, Fla., Mary Nell Dixon, Colbert, and Florence F. Hill, Watkinsville. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Fleming was a daughter of the late Willie J. and Magnolia Watkins Fleming. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at Thankful Grove Church with the Rev. W.H. Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Geneva Harper, Comer; and three brothers, Willie Fleming Jr., Eugene Fleming and Hubert Fleming, all of Detroit, Mich. A native of Madison County, Mr. Collins was a son of the late Veal and Pearlie Mae Collins. He was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church, where he was a soloist. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at Holly Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Scotty Randolph officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Collins’ nephews served as pallbearers. Survivors include three daughters, Angela Collins, Atlanta, Yulanda Faison, Macon, and Shantisa Barnett, Athens; two sons, Douglas Collins, Atlanta, and Phil Collins Jr., Comer; three sisters, Winnie Kelley, Hull, and Kathleen Glenn and Ellen Ford, both of Athens; two brothers, Cecil Collins, Winterville, and Paul Collins, Athens; 15 grandchildren and a niece raised in the home, Linda Jackson.
