A native of Stephens County, Ms. Waddell was the daughter of the late Johnny and Reppard Ayers Kelly. She was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of Central Baptist Church. Ms. Waddell was preceded in death by her husband, Van Leeman Waddell, a daughter, Victoria Waddell Sartain, and a son, Johnny Waddell. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Morris Sapp officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. A native of Madison County, Mr. Rice was a son of the late Asa and Maude Rice, Madison County. He was a World War II veteran and was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Corporation. Mr. Rice was a deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hull. Mrs. Scarboro was born August 14, 1915, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Henry Tyrus Martin and Sara Emma Crow Martin. Mrs. Scarboro moved to Central Florida in 1950. She was a homemaker who volunteered at West Orange Hospital and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Scarboro was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winter Park, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1973, and by two brothers and seven sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 16, at Mill Shoal Baptist Church with the Rev. Martin T. Coile officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Burroughs Mrs. Dorothy Jolene Burroughs, 80, of Colbert, died Thursday, January 9, 2003. Born in Jackson County, Mrs. Burroughs was a daughter of the late Luther James and Fannie McGinnis Minish. She was a self-employed beautician and was the owner of Swamp Guinea Restaurant in Colbert. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Rudy Burroughs Jr. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, January 10, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Brown John Allison Brown, 85, of Carlton, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at his residence. A native of Madison County, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Jesse Frances and Pearl Moon Brown. He was an avid farmer and a retired postmaster of the Carlton Post Office. Mr. Brown was the first World War II draftee in Madison County into the Army, and a lifelong member of Carlton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years and clerk of Sunday School for 60 years, taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jessie Mae Brown, Reba Brown Bobo and Peggy Brown Hutchins. The family celebrated the life of Mr. Brown at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Carlton Baptist Church with the Revs. Douglas Ivey and Bill Crowe officiating. Burial followed in Fork Cemetery. Mr. Brown will be remembered as a loving, loyal and generous friend to all who knew him, said family members. He was the son of the late Albert David Parks and the late Nellie House Parks, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Parks. A native of Madison County, Mr. Fortson was a son of the late Will David and Lucy Caudell Fortson. He served in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone from 1958 to 1960 and was retired from BellSouth, with 35 years of service. Following his retirement, Mr. Fortson worked for Georgia Security and McLane Southeast. He was also retired pastor of Kingdom of Jesus Ministries.
