A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Blanche Willoughby Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Alliance Church, Athens. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul “Junior” Cox, Joseph Hamilton Cox and Eldridge Coile Cox. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Community Alliance Church with the Rev. Jim Harp and Melvin Autry officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Junior Dowell, Joe Cox, Cody Lange, Frank Moseley and Mike Hughes served as pallbearers. Cole, 52, of Hoschton, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Residing in Barrow County for most of her life, Mrs. Cole was a daughter of the late Garland and Mamie England Bagwell. She was a retiree of Mitsubishi Electronics. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, Ricky Cole, Hoschton; daughter, Lisa Miller, Hoschton; son, Ronnie Meeks, Conyers; sister, Eva Gale, Hull; brother, Richard Bagwell, Mitchell; and three grandchildren. McLean Donald Henry McLean, 67, of Comer, died Monday, July 7, 2003. A native of Canada, Mr. McLean was a son of the late Albert and Edith McLean. He was a master carpenter. Survivors include three daughters, Debra Carroll, St. Cloud, Fla., Belinda McLean, and Alberta Hicks, Orlando, Fla.; one son, Donald Wannamaker, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Florence Moore, Winter Garden, Fla.; one brother, Bobby Carter, Comer; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Coker was born January 1, 1906, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Will and Lizzie Smith Little. She was a homemaker and a member of Mill Shoal Baptist Church. Mrs. Coker was preceded in death by her husband, Henry David Coker, a son, W.D. Coker, and a great-great-grandson, James Austin Miller. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. David Coker and Terry Fowler officiating. Burial was in the New Bethel Holiness Church Cemetery. David Coker Jr., Andy Coker, Tim Dowell, Kim Dowell, Tim Miller and Neal Miller served as pallbearers. Fleming, 74, of Winterville, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Fleming was a son of the late Willie and Agnus Owens Fleming. He was the husband of the late Matilda Kidd Fleming. Mr. Fleming was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict, and worked as a supervisor with DairyPak in Athens. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Danny Shumate officiating. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Nalley, Comer, Martha Jean Southard, Royston, and April Bonner, Athens; one son, William O. Fleming, Winder; five sisters, Hilda Shetts, Wilma Polk, Irene Shupe, Rebecca Drake and Mary Beth Rice; three brothers, Bobby Fleming, Gearold Fleming and Larry Fleming; 10 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Hitchcock Dr. William Lawrence Hitchcock, 84, of Statesboro, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, Dr. Hitchcock had lived in Bulloch County since 1960. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men. Dr. Hitchcock was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in Bulloch Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Don Adams officiating. Dr. Hitchcock is survived by his wife, Doshia Hitchcock, Statesboro; one niece, Kim Hitchcock, Decatur; one nephew, Barry Hitchcock, Athens; three great-nephews, Joseph, Jonathan and Jim Hitchcock, all of Athens; and one great-niece, Ivy Hitchcock, Athens. Cofer Mrs. Emma Sue Hale Cofer, 93, of Nicholson, widow of the late Albert Jackson Cofer, died Sunday, July 13, 2003. Mrs. Cofer was born in Clarke County, a daughter of the late Homer G. Hale Sr. and Effie Bramblett Hale. She was the oldest member of Princeton United Methodist Church and was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Co. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Princeton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Repetske Jr. officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Mrs. Cofer’s nephews served as pallbearers. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Toula Cofer Jarrett, Nicholson; son and daughter-in-law, Randall J. Cofer and Carol Cofer, Watkinsville; grandchildren, Douglas E. Jarrett, Timothy Jarrett, Randal N. Cofer, Corban L. Cofer and Caroline D.
