Carithers Marlin V. Carithers, 71, of Comer, died Saturday, November 15, 2003. A native of Madison County, Mr. Carithers was a son of the late Alverda and Iris Vaughn Carithers Hanley. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Comer Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Carithers was a retired police chief with the City of Comer and with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. He was also the first lieutenant with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department under the D.U.I. Program. After retirement, he joined the law enforcement once more with the City of Danielsville. The family of Mr. Carithers celebrated his life at 2 p.m. Monday, November 17, at Comer Baptist Church. The Rev. Rodney Owens officiated the service. Burial was in Meadow Cemetery. Deacons of Comer Baptist Church served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Madison County Law Enforcement. Mr. Carithers is survived by his wife, Sue Bennett McClellan Carithers; two daughters, Susan Carithers, Dandridge, Tenn., and Shirley Carithers, Hartwell; and one son, Steven Marlin Carithers, Hartwell. Born April 17, 1929, in Franklin County, Mrs. Parks was a daughter of the late Joseph and Leona Burch Argo. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her first husband, Reford Leonard Stansell, a brother, L. Argo, and two sisters, Magaloo Vandiver and Janie Ophelia English. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 14, at B. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, ith the Rev. Gary West and Bishop Willard Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial was in Cary Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Parks is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Occhipinti Charles William Occhipinti, Major USMC Retired, 69, of Bogart, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003. A native of Dunmore, Pa., Mr. Occhipinti was a son of the late Anthony and Mary Baldruhock Occhipinti. He retired from the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Catholic Center University of Georgia. Mr. Occhipinti was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Vestal Occhipinti, and a son, Christopher William Occhipinti. A funeral mass was held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 14, at the Catholic Center University of Georgia with Father Jack McDowell officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A native of Marshall County, Ala., Mr. Kirkland was a son of the late Emmett and Erma Chapell Kirkland. He lived in the Morgan County area for over 40 years and was the former director of The Game and Fish Department of Georgia. Mrs. Bond was born in Franklin County on March 28, 1944, a daughter of the late John S. and Sarah Manley Peeples. She worked as a supervisor and seamstress in the textile industry and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Winship Dr. Florence Wood Winship, 57, of Hull, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003. Dr. Winship was born November 22, 1945, in Macon. Growing up in Augusta, she was a daughter of the late Herring Winship Jr. and Mary Louise Griffin Winship. Dr. Winship graduated from the University of Georgia in 1967 and from the Medical College of Georgia in 1971, and served her residency in San Francisco, Calif. She had been with UGA Health Services for 22 years, serving as a physician and for a time was Health Services Director. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church. Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 14, at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church with Bishop Mark Haverland and Father John Cotterell officiating. Dr. Winship is survived by her husband, John Francis Snyder; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Jim McKelvey; niece and nephews, Robert L. McKelvey and Elizabeth M. and Colin Martin; great-nieces; step-brothers, James W. Conger, RFZ Bob Conger and Michael Conger; and step-sister, Melinda Conger Perkins.
