Deal William Franklin Deal, 45, of Colbert, died Monday, May 19, 2003. Born in Fulton County, Mr. Deal was a son of William Edgar Deal and the late Kathleen Free Deal. He was employed as a driver with APAC Paving Co. and was of the Baptist denomination. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Kenneth Dillard officiating. In addition to his father, Mr. Deal is survived by his wife, Cindy Rogers Deal; two sons, Russ Nevil, Winterville, and Josh Deal, Colbert; two sisters, Pam Beasley, Arcade, and Marjorie Deal, Hilands, N.C.; two brothers, Leonard Deal, Athens, and Marty Deal, Lavonia; and several nieces and nephews. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, May 21, 2003 Samuel M. ‘Sam’ Weldon Samuel Mallie “Sam” Weldon, of Lithia Springs, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003. Born in Tifton, Mr. Weldon was a son of the late Samuel Mallie and Annie Brauner Weldon. He retired as a business agent for Atlanta Carpenters Union, Local Number 225, was a member of the Douglasville Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist denomination. During World War II, Mr. Weldon served in the U.S. Army, participating in combat in Germany, France and England. During this time, he received the Purple Heart and several other medals. While serving in Germany, Mr. Weldon was involved in the liberation of one of the concentration camps. After the war he served for several years in the U.S. Army Reserve and left the Army as a W-4 Warrant Officer. Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, in the chapel of Roy Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Weldon officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Mr. Weldon is survived by his wife, Marcella Neer Weldon, of the home; daughter, Suzan C. Weldon, of the home; daughter and son-in- law, Michele Weldon Carter and Harry Carter, Comer; son, Samuel A. Weldon, Smyrna; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debra Weldon, Lithia Springs; and grandchildren, April Bray, Douglasville, and Elaine Vance, Senioa. Mrs. Burden was born in Elbert County on August 7, 1919, a daughter of the late W.I. and Pearl Maxwell Booth. She was a former Assistant Clerk of the City of Bowman, Georgia, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bowman Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. Mrs. Burden was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Burden, a son, Benson Burden, a sister, Azalee Duncan, and several brothers. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Bowman Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Owensby and the Rev. John Forbes officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery, Bowman. Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, May 21, 2003 Joe E. ‘Pop’ Ginn Joe Edgar “Pop” Ginn, 76, of Tucker, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Gwinnett Medical Center, Lawrenceville. Mr. Ginn was born February 10, 1927, in Hart County, a son of the late Tommie Lucius and Annie Lucille Bryant Ginn. He was retired from the Quality Assurance Department of General Motors and was a member of U.A.W. Local #10. Mr. Ginn was also a member of Northwoods Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bevlin and Brady Ginn. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Tim Hobbs o fficiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. Mr. Ginn is survived by his wife, Betty Faye Hanley Ginn, Tucker; three daughters, Faye Greenway, Duluth, Marlene Hodge, Lilburn, and Debbie Smart, Loganville; one brother, James Ginn, Canon; one sister, Margaret Jamison, Milledgeville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Miss Crowe was born in Royston on July 23, 1905, a daughter of the late Marvin and Cora Roach Crowe. She was retired from Cannon Mills. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Fred Boozer officiating. Burial was in the Zidon Baptist Church Cemetery. Klein Mrs. Donna June Klein, 65, of Statham, died Friday, May 16, 2003. Mrs. Klein was born in Cascade, Idaho, a daughter of Welda Yamamoto, Boise, Idaho, and the late Robert Meral Dealy. She was a member of the Auburn Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Klein was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Larson and Vernon Hardan, three brothers, Earl, Beryl and Harry Dealy, and a sister, Debra Jean Dealy. Hospital in Decatur. Mr. Bryant was born July 26, 1945, in Franklin County. He was a son of the late Johnny Samuel and Pearl Elizabeth Franklin Bryant. Mr. Bryant was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as a tank commander in the Blackhorse Battalion. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Old Canon Baptist Church. Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his first wife, Ginger Annette Hall Bryant, a son, Michael Bryant, a niece reared in the home, Misty White, a sister, Delpha Dove, twin brothers, Arthur and Oscar Bryant, and a brother, Harley Bryant. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with Ministers Martha Teasley and Randall Starrett officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Timms, 89, of Braselton, died Thursday, May 15, 2003. Mr. Timms was born in Barrow County to the late Lenard and Ada Smith Timms. Residing in Braselton for most of his life, he was a retired truck driver and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Mr. Timms was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Spain Timms. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Barney Williams and Greg Worley officiating. Burial was in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, May 21, 2003 Colquitt Sims Jr., M.D. Colquitt Sims Jr., M.D., of Anderson, S.C., died Monday, May 12, 2003. Born in Jackson County on May 25, 1922, Dr. Sims was the son of the late Colquitt Sims Sr. and Frances Barker Sims, Apple Valley. He was the founder of Children’s Clinic of Anderson, where he practiced for 47 years, 40 of those years with Dr. Henry B. Hearn. Mr. Sims was a charter member of Boulevard Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassador leader, deacon and on various committees. He was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II and a past president of the South Carolina Pediatric Society in 1969. Dr. Sims served five years on the board of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and practiced 27 years with the outpatient pediatric clinic of the Anderson County Health Department. He was a member of the medical staff of Anderson Memorial Hospital from 1950 to 1997, Vice Chief of Staff in 1970 and Chief of Pediatrics in 1968 and 1975. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, S.C., with Dr. Johnny McKinney and the Rev. Ed Matheny officiating. Dr. Sims is survived by his wife, Doris Wolfe Sims; sons, Phillips Colquitt Sims, and wife, Linda McNalley Sims, Canon, and David Strother Sims, and wife, Wendie Brown Sims, Anderson, S.C.; daughter, Lori Sims Jarman, and husband, Clyde Andrew Jarman, Anderson, S.C.; sister, Mary Helen Sims Banister, Ila; brothers, Eddie Francis Sims, Melbourne, Fla., and Johnny Clark Sims, Konstanz, Germany; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sims Cashion, and husband, Christopher Cashion, and their children, Christopher Sims Cashion and Strother Elizabeth Cashion, Anderson, S.C.; grandson, Kelly Warfield Smith, Richmond, Va.; and granddaughter, Karson Graeme Smith, Dahlonega.
