Brooks McElreath, 89, of Danielsville, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mrs. McElreath was born in Madison County on November 26, 1913. She was a daughter of the late Oscar David and Vevie Lovern Brooks. She was a farmer and homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. McElreath was twice married, first to the late Goss Norton, and second to the late John Henry McElreath. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Otto and Johnny Brooks, and three sisters, Lena Herbert, Willie Maude Powers and Margaret Gurley. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 18, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Coy Brooks, Comer; a step-daughter, Velma Barber, Watkinsville; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born in Franklin County on August 2, 1945, Mr. Carter was a son of the late James and Reba Garner Carter. He worked in construction. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Carter, and three sisters, Ruby Nell Bruce, Hilda Brown and Barbara Jean Carter. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial was in Bowers Memorial Gardens. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Esco was a son of Calvin and Mary L. Porterfield Esco, Comer. Mr. Esco was a graduate of Madison County High School and IBEW LU #613 Apprenticeship Program. He was part owner of C&M Electrical and C&M Industrial Mechanical and was a member of Meadow Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Meadow Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Sarna officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. Teet Mrs. Thelma Mae Satcher Teet, 97, of Athens, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003. Mrs. Teet was born in Meridian, Miss., on May 30, 1906, a daughter of the late Lloyd Melvin and Lillie Catherine Satcher, Meridian, Miss. She was married to the late Lloyd Morris Teet Sr., Greensboro. Mrs. Teet had lived in Georgia for the past 82 years and worked as a Loom Fixer in the Puritan Cotton Mill. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Teet was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Opal Miller, two sons, Lloyd Morris Teet Jr. and Adolphus Louis Teet; and a grandson, John Thomas Walls. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Johnny Knight officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery. Mr. Carey was born in Franklin County on May 18, 1930, a son of the late J.T. and Geneva Haley Carey. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Carey retired from Comer Manufacturing in 1978 and was a member of Bio Baptist Church in Hart County. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Chris Tucker and Rodney Alexander, five brothers, Z.O., Tiny, Talmadge, Joe and J.V. Carey, and three sisters, Katie McLane, Amelia Brooks and Sidney Bailey. Howard Jr. John Morris “J.M.” Howard Jr., of Hull, died Thursday, July 17, 2003. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Howard was a son of the late John Morris and Flossie McGahee Howard. He served in the U.S. Army and had been employed by Westinghouse, later ABB. He was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Winder.
