A native of Pike County, he was a son of the late A.E. and Ruth Bussey Jones and was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Faith Starr Jones. A 1938 graduate of Berry College and the University of Georgia, he served in World War II in the United States Navy. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Clarke County from 1948 until 1979. He was a charter member of Roundtable Farmers Club and the Clarke-Oconee Cattleman’s Association. Jones was a director of the Clarke County Farm Bureau, a Dairy Shrine Member and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at Green Acres Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Rowell and Vernon Grimes officiating. Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Edith Hoopaugh Jones; six children, Clyde Jones, Colbert, J. She was the wife of the late William James White. A native of Augusta, she had been living in Danielsville for the past few years. She was a 1998 graduate of the University of Georgia. In 2000, she received her master’s degree with honors from the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia and was presently working toward her Ph.D. in English. She also taught freshman literature at UGA. She was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta. Mrs. McEntyre was born in Franklin County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Edward Orr Sr. and Rosa Anderson Gordon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lee McEntyre, her sisters and brothers, Lillie Mae Gordon McKinnley, William Roy Gordon, Joseph (Joe) Brown Gordon, Jennie (Jean) Bell Gordon Stingel, George Dewitt Gordon, Vera Loutichia Gordon Haynie, Nellie Louise Gordon McMahan, Edward Orr Gordon Jr. and Robert (Bob) Lee Gordon. She was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. McEntyre was a homemaker and was retired from Stowe Mills in Belmont, N.C., as a spinner. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II and a member of Wesley Chapel Church. Mrs. Cawthon was born in Hart County on May 14, 1926. She was a daughter of the late Sandy Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Allen Chitwood. She was a retired LPN with Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Cawthon was a member of Canon Baptist Church, where she was a member of the W.M.U., the Ila Burton Sunday School Class and the Senior Saints. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Rastus, Ralph, Gordon, Evard and James Chitwood. White was born July 7, 1976, a son of Jack and Pat Burns White. He had spent his early life in Gordon County and was a Baptist. He was an alumnus of Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia, where he had recently completed the master’s degree program. He was employed by the University of Georgia as a graduate assistant. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Oostanaula Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Butler officiating. Floyd, 83, of Canon, died Friday, September 12, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mr. Floyd was born in Hart County on May 11, 1920, a son of the late Amos Cleveland and Mattie Brown Floyd. He retired from the Soil Conservation Service and from Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston. Mr. Floyd was a member of Old Canon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Bowersville Fire Department. He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Bert and Ben Floyd, brothers, Berry Floyd, Grady Floyd and Monroe Floyd, and a sister, Sallie Mae Temple. Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by three brothers, Haskell, Gordon and Johnny Vaughn, and a sister, Era Kelley. Mr. Whitlow was born in Franklin County, December 15, 1911, the son of the late Cyrus Jefferson and Katherine Melissa Cole Whitlow. He was a retired grocery store owner and was a member of the Royston Baptist Church where he attended the Berean Sunday School Class. Mr. Whitlow was a member of the Carnesville Masonic Lodge and the Woodmen of the World. His wife was the late Sally Allene Bennett Whitlow.
