A native of Madison County, Mrs. Wheless was a daughter of the late Griffin and Beatrice Saxton Williams. She was retired from DuPont Company. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Jeff Lester officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Jonathon Stancil, Charles Burkhalter, Johnny Stancil, Justin Smith, Tommy Watson and Dustin Temple served as pallbearers. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Sisk and Kim Butler, both of Danielsville; one son, Mitchell Wheless, Danielsville; one sister, Glinda Blalock, Nicholson; eight grandchildren; and two nieces, Beverly Gaddis, Nicholson, and Cindy Stancil, Jefferson. Born in Barrow County, Mr. Perkins was the son of the late Willie Perkins Sr. and Ruby Elizabeth Miller Perkins. He was the owner and operator of Perkland Dairy and Trucking Company, former state director and past president of Farm Bureau and served as chairman of Barrow & Oconee Farm Service Agency. Mr. Perkins served on the Barrow County School Board for 18 years, was a member of Midway Christian Church, where he served as a past elder, and was a present member of the Barrow County and the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Smith Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Ralph Posey and John Burchfield officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife, Carolyn Perkins, Winder; four daughters, Peggy Jones, Colbert, and Debbie Perkins, Jackie Perkins and Stacey Wilson, all of Winder; and two grandchildren, Eric Jones and Chrystal Jones. Taylor Mrs. Mattie Pearl Taylor, 87, of Lexington, died Sunday, June 22, 2003. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of the late Louie and Lizzie Watkins. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Fork Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Rufus Whitlock officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Charles Taylor, Lexington, and Willie Taylor, Bogart; four daughters, Roberta Hill and Bertha Mae Heard, Lexington, Mozelle Smith, Athens, and Georgia Stone, Austell; and a granddaughter raised in the home, Brenda Meadows, Colbert. Mrs. Sorrow was born in Madison County on September 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Johnson Effie and Lillie Lavida Horne Alewine. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a farmer. Mrs. Sorrow was preceded in death by her husband, Joe William Sorrow. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Artis Anglin and Roy Sorrow officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sorrow’s grandsons served as pallbearers. Survivors include four daughters, Cooter Baxter, Ila, Wilma Cluck, Danielsville, Martha Akins, Hartwell, and Vicki Long, Anderson, S.C.; four sons, Douglas Sorrow, Ronnie Sorrow, Paul Sorrow and William Sorrow, all of Danielsville; three step-children, Joel Sorrow, Bowman, Joyce Pursley, Winder, and Quincey Sorrow, Athens; one brother, Roy Alewine, Dahlonega; four sisters, Mary Lou Dutton, Comer, Magdeline Hill, Royston, Betty Ann Abercrombie, Elberton, and Grace Fleeman, Comer; two half-brothers, Ray Alewine, Clemson, S.C., and David Alewine, Canon; two half-sisters, Patricia Alewine, Canon, and Enddy Alewine, Toccoa; 37 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. McCarty was born in Oglethorpe, a daughter of the late Walter D. and Minnie Patton Childers. She was a homemaker and a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. “Mack” McCarty. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, South Carolina. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, West, South Carolina. Survivors include two sisters, Naomi C. Watson, Greenville, S.C., and LouNell Morris, Colbert; one brother, Herman Childers, Colbert; and a number of nieces and nephews. Carter, 70, of Bishop, died Friday, June 20, 2003. A native of Madison County, Mr. Carter was the son of the late Earnest Carter and the late Cordelia H. Carter. He was a grading contractor and served in the U.S. Air Force. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22, in Arthur Bowick’s Oconee Chapel with David Dawson officiating. Burial was in Oconee Memorial Park. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Ruby Nell Bishop Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gerald Bond, Watkinsville; daughter, Branda Anthony, Watkinsville; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Terry Carter, Bishop; his step-mother, Margie Argo Carter, Bishop; sister, Barbara Pierce, Cleveland; brothers, Charlie Carter and John Carter, both of Pell City, Ala., and Jack Carter, Auburn; and grandchildren, Brandon Carter, Jennifer Queen, Melissa Bond, Jessica Tuck, McKinzie Anthony and Marcie Anthony.
