Strickland Mrs. Flora Diane McElreath Strickland, 40, of Danielsville, died Thursday, February 20, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Strickland was born in Franklin County on July 6, 1962, a daughter of Robert Hoyle and Geraldine Sexton McElreath. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Dennis McElreath and Darrell McElreath. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in the Community Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Strickland is survived by her husband, Joe Paul Strickland; and two brothers, Jerry McElreath and Dwayne McElreath, both of Danielsville. Evans James Timothy Evans, 49, of Commerce, died Thursday, February 20, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center of an extended illness. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Evans was a son of Norine Hayes Evans, Commerce, and the late William V. Evans. He was preceded in death by a grandchild. Mr. Evans was a retired truck driver. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 23, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three sons, David Evans, Cody Evans and Justin Evans, all of Commerce; three daughters, Sherry Williams, Hull, and Tina Evans and Marie Evans, both of Ellijay; one brother, William Larry Evans, Danielsville; and six grandchildren. Barrett Curtis Owen Barrett, 76, of Athens, died Thursday, February 20, 2003. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Barrett was the son of the late Leonard and Edna Augustine Seebert Barrett. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. Mr. Barrett was a sales representative for Sun Electric Corporation for 10 years and served the rest of his working career in the automotive field with Johnson and Johnson. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Nicholson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Dillard officiating. Burial was in the Pittman Cemetery, Sanford Community. Shaw Willis Milton Shaw, 69, of Comer, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003. Born in South Carolina, Mr. Shaw was a son of the late Waymond and Marie Head Shaw. He was a maintenance worker with Apparel Finishers and was of the Holiness denomination. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Shaw and Ronald Shaw. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, at Macedonia Holiness Church with the Revs. Ardis Anglin and William Anglin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Palmer Mrs. Almera Lord Palmer, 88, of Nicholson, died Friday, February 21, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Palmer was born June 5, 1914, in Madison County, a daughter of the late George Earl and Mary Berrong O’Kelley. She was retired from Thomas Textile and was a member of Nicholson Congregational Holiness Church. Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her first husband, William French Lord, her second husband, Frank Palmer, and a son, Ronald Lord. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at the River of Life Worship Center with the Revs. Howard Rhodes, Dennis Kesler, Mike Stowers, Charles Hardy, Aubrey McIntire and Marty Smith officiating. He was a rancher and a computer technician. Mr. Linnell was also a truck driver and of the Baptist denomination. Drake James Albert Drake, 70, of Ila, died Sunday, February 23, 2003. Born in Madison County, Mr. Drake was a son of Ethel Beck Drake and the late James S. Drake. He was retired from Gas Fire Products, with 23 years of service, and Reliance Electric, with 20 years of service. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Drake was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Vaughn officiating. Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements. --------------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, February 26, 2003 Florence ‘Mil Mil’ Lance Mrs. Florence Mildred “Mil Mil” Scogin Lance, 57, of Pendergrass, died Sunday, February 23, 2003, at North-east Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness. Mrs. Lance was born in Madison County on August 10, 1945. She was saved and baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Athens, and was an active member of Pond Fork Baptist Church, Pendergrass, since 1964, where she served the Lord in several ministries through the years. Mrs. Lance was employed as an assembly technician with Caterpillar. “‘Mil Mil’ has been considered a second mother and grandmother to many children in her life and was an inspiration to everyone she met,” said family members. “She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. She was loved and will never be forgotten by her husband, James Lance.” Mrs. Lance was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Carter Scogin. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, at Pond Fork Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Knight, Larry Buffington and Preston Moore officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lance is survived by her husband, James L. Mr. Moon was born October 3, 1928, in Elbert County, a son of the late Leonard B. and Ruth Fleeman Moon. He was a mechanic and of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Moon was preceded in death by a sister, Wynona Moore. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Mrs. Boyd was born December 5, 1925, the daughter of the late Carless (Beam) and Gladys Mercer Berryman. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator and a member of Royston Baptist Church. Mrs. Boyd was twice married, first to the late Pete James Watt, and second to the late Leonard W. (Bluegrass) Boyd. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Rose Watts, and two brothers, Wethrol and Forest Berryman. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, February 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Byron Greene officiating. Survivors include one son, J.C. (Carter) Watts, Wrens; one daughter, Pansy Roling, Canon; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
