Williams Mrs. Irene Faye Faulk Williams, 52, of Lavonia, died Sunday, March 30, 2003. Mrs. Williams was a native of Lake Charles, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Williams Sr. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Robert Garrett and the Rev. Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Burial was in the Bible Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Candy Harris, Bowersville; sons, Robert Williams, Lavonia, and Gerald Williams, Jefferson; brothers, Elwin Faulk and Billy Faulk, both of Longville, La., and Haywood Faulk, Lafayette, La.; and seven grandchildren. Smith Robert Lee Smith, of the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston, died Saturday, March 29, 2003. Mr. Smith was born in Hart County, a son of the late Asa Dennard and Lizzie Winn Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired farmer. Mr. Smith was a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lettie Rousey Smith, twin daughters, Joyce Ann and Janice Smith, three brothers, Aaron, Horace and Walton Smith, and a sister, Ruby Woodall. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Bert Synan, Mike Crowe and Gary Osteen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by a sister, Lairee Herbert, Toccoa; and several nieces and nephews. Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements. ----------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, April 2, 2003 Bill Bryant Sr. William Burton “Bill” Bryant Sr., 94, of Jackson, Miss., formerly of Royston, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003. Mr. Bryant was born October 22, 1908, in Franklin County, a son of the late Bolin and Augusta Jane Stovall Bryant. He was owner and operator of Royston Coal Company for many years and was a cattleman. Mr. Bryant was a member of Royston United Methodist Church. He was twice married, first to the late Lucile McDaniel Bryant, and second to the late Pat Hobbs Bryant, and was preceded in death by a son, Paul Bryant, four brothers, Joe Bryant, Clarence Bryant, Paul Bryant and Frank Bryant, and a sister, Kate Bryant Bell. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Clark officiating. Survivors include one daughter, Jane Morrison, Jackson, Miss.; two sons, Hallman Bryant, Clemson, S.C., and Burton Bryant, Royston; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brooks Mrs. Bertie Lee Adams Brooks, 100, of Elberton, formerly of Maysville, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Brooks was born March 6, 1903, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Gus and Dessie Reynolds Adams. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Brooks, a daughter, Frances Brooks, and a number of brothers. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Dr. Gerald Mitton and the Rev. Robert Scruton officiating. Burial was in the Oconee Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson. Mrs. Brooks is survived by a son, James Roy Brooks, Maysville; a daughter, Louise B. Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ----------------------------------------- The Madison County Journal, April 2, 2003 Don Smith James Donald “Don” Smith, 70, of Canon, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston. Mr. Smith was born in Franklin County on December 20, 1932, a son of the late Hoke and Bonnie Strickland Smith. He retired from Westinghouse after 32 years of service and was currently employed with Johnson and Johnson Consumer Products as a security guard. Mr. Smith served as former mayor of Canon for more than 20 years and served as a former deacon of Canon Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Lavonia V.F.W. Post 5897. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Smith, Alfred Smith, Butch Smith and Mason Smith. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Canon Baptist Church with the Revs. Eldon Massey and Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery, Canon. Willie B. Ricketson, Lanier Lunsford, Hal Roach, Harmon Bennett Jr., Chad Smith and Chris Bennett will serve as pallbearers. Beasley Mrs. Betty Jean Vinson Beasley, 62, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Beasley was a daughter of the late George and Ruby Lee Vinson. She retired from Modern Globe Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Tabors Chapel C.M.E. Church, Ila. Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Beasley. Michael was a second grader at Providence Academy and was active in the Commerce Pee-Wee Baseball League. Peck Mrs. Virginia Harper Peck, 81, of Watkinsville, died Friday, March 28, 2003. A native of Morgan County, Mrs. Peck was a daughter of the late Austin Fred and Fannie Studdard Harper, and the wife of the late John A. Peck. Mrs. Peck was a longtime resident of Oconee County, where she was a homemaker and a member of Freeman Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Jessie, Shirley, Lou and Newton. Peck, 84, of Watkinsville, died Friday, March 28, 2003. A native of Morgan County, Mr. Peck was a son of the late Joseph Emory and Pearl Lou Harper Peck, and the husband of Virginia Harper Peck. Mr. Peck was a longtime resident of Oconee County, where he was a former school board member, and was instrumental in starting the South Oconee Volunteer Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Peck retired from Westinghouse, was a farmer and a member of Freeman Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and song leader. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Horace and Vernon, and a sister, Hilda. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Revs. Durell Rice and Charles Giles officiating.
