Coker Mrs. Doris Geneva Powell Coker, 82, of Watkinsville, died Monday, June 2, 2003. A native of Morgan County, Mrs. Coker was a daughter of the late Grady and Viola Fitzpatrick Powell. She was a homemaker and a retired seamstress. Mrs. Coker was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Watkinsville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Athens. Greg Kellar, Jeff Kellar, Travis Whitehead, Tom Stephenson and Alan Campbell served as pallbearers. Mrs. Coker is survived by her husband, Carl S. Bruce Tommy Lee Bruce, 78, of Lexington, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003. A longtime resident of Madison County, Mr. Bruce was a son of the late John T. and Ruby Fowler Bruce. He retired from the Department of Transportation and was a member of Comer Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Revs. Richard Pickelsimer and Mike Ellison officiating. Redfern Mrs. Ella Kay Bryant Allen Redfern, 79, of Athens, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Redfern was the daughter of the late John Elva and Della Seigler Bryant. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Mrs. Redfern was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Allen, and her second husband, Harry Redfern. A native of Comer, Mr. Smith was the last surviving child of the late Ezra Belton and Bessie Coker Smith. He was the owner of Masters Garage in Athens for 42 years and was an avid fisherman, being a Chartered Member of the Winterville Bass Club. He was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a grandson, JAC Cranford Jr. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Revs. Ronnie Healan and Ross Johns officiating. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mary B. Bellamy Cecil Lord Bellamy, 82, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003. A native of Banks County, Mr. Bellamy had resided in Jackson County all of his life. He was the son of the late Claude and Ruby Bellamy. Mr. Bellamy served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from E.R. Healan Auto Parts in 2000. He was a member of Attica Baptist Church. King Mrs. Ethel Louise Watkins King, 93, of Commerce, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born January 25, 1910, in Clarke County, Mrs. King was the daughter of the late George and Mamie Etta Aaron Watkins. She retired from Harmony Grove Mills and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence “Red” King, and a son, Harry King. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Pastor Stuart Lang and the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Baker, 73, of Statham, died Friday, May 30, 2003. Born in Madison County, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late John Nelson Wood and Lassie Lowe Wood and the step-daughter of Celo Wood, Crawford. She was a member of Bogart First Baptist Church and a member of the Bogart High School Alumni Association. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Baker. Mr. Spears was born in Franklin County on May 29, 1956, a son of Maxie Roach Spears and the late Charles Morris Spears. He worked as a truck driver and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter and as vice president of the Narrow Way Riders Christian Motorcycle Ministry. Mr. Spears was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charlie Reed and Adger Lea Spears, and his maternal grandparents, Knox C. and English J. Roach. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Pritchett and Rick Gibson officiating. Burial was in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, Carnesville. Tim Moore, Carter Kennedy, Morris Phillips, Larry Franks, Bobby Holcombe and John Todd served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Freeman, Reggie Vaughn, David Pulliam and Steve Vaughn. These men made a big difference in Mr. Spears’ life, it was stated. Survivors include a son, Wayne Jordan, Florida; sister, Berma Sue Smith, Colbert; brother, Haywood Jordan, Florida; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, Mr. Webb was a retired supervisor with Lease Way Transportation. No services are scheduled at this time.
