Brooks Ronald R. Brooks, 67, of Carlton, died Saturday, March 6, 2004. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Brooks was a son of the late Lewis Henry and Hilda Norman Brooks. He was a retired mail carrier and a member of Carlton Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Brooks. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville. Burial was in Forest Hills Cemetery. Fowler Mrs. Charlotte Gaines Fowler, 45, of Jefferson, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Fowler was born February 3, 1959, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of Callie Wright Gaines, Royston, and the late Eugene Gaines. Mrs. Fowler was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Fork Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Fowler. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Tim Strickland and James Ivey officiating. Burial was in the Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a son, Will Fowler, Jefferson; daughter, Ranee Fowler, Jefferson; brothers, H.L. Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------ The Madison County Journal, March 10, 2004 Johnny ‘Otis’ Heaton Johnny Henry “Otis” Heaton, 69, of Danielsville, died Saturday, March 6, 2004. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Heaton was a son of the late Henry and Mittie Lee Savage Heaton. Mr. Heaton was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict, and while in the Army, served with the Military Police. He retired from Thrall Carr, Winder. “As a citizen who loved helping others,” it was stated, Mr. Heaton was a Deputy Sheriff of Madison County for many years. He was also among the first five members of the Madison County Rescue. “A loving father and husband, Mr. Heaton had a second love ‘Johnny’s Bugs’ in Danielsville,” said family members. “This love was his passion to live, living to ‘work on a bug.’” Mr. Heaton was known for many appearances in local parades with a “convoy of bugs” and his most recent find — a Volkswagon tractor. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Walter Singletary officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mr. Heaton is survived by his wife of 47 years, Hilda Brown Heaton; daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Ted Adams, Danielsville; brothers, G.W. McEwin Mack Lee McEwin, 86, of Royston, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston. Mr. McEwin was born September 19, 1917, in Lamar County, Texas, a son of the late Weaver and Kitty Lynch McEwin. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. McEwin served in World War II. He was a retired realtor and of the Baptist denomination. Mr. McEwin was preceded in death by a son, Steve McEwin, a daughter, Kathy McEwin, and two brothers, Charles and Robert McEwin. Survivors include his wife, Nell Fowler McEwin, Royston; son, Jim McEwin, Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Susan McEwin, Dallas, Texas, and Gail Williamson, Royston; brothers, Bruce McEwin, Paris, Texas, and Dr. Tom McEwin, Muncie, Ind.; sisters, Kathryne Crook, Robbie Dancer, Roma Dahl, Gena Baird and Myrna Hutchinson, all of Paris, Texas; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Schroder Miss Kaitlin Michelle Schroder, 18, of Miller Town, Pa., died Sunday, March 7, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Miss Schroder was born July 30, 1985, in Ft. Polk, La. She was a daughter of John L. Schroder, Miller Town, Pa., and the late Sgt. Valerie Michelle Schroder. Miss Schroder was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Carlene Doris Peavy, and paternal grandparents, George Schroder and Lois Brown. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 9, in the chapel of Myers Funeral Home, New Port, Pa. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest F. Maxwell, and a son, James Maxwell. Born in Banks County on March 15, 1919, Mr. Hardy was a son of the late M.L. and Bessie Bennett Hardy. He retired from Blue Bell and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and the Jolly Agers. Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel M. Hardy. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Danny Green and Stuart Land officiating. Jones Travis Eugene Jones, 42, of Maysville, died Sunday, March 7, 2004. Mr. Jones was born February 4, 1962, in Hall County, the son of the late Talmadge and Winnie Blanch Smallwood Jones. He was employed in road construction and was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Cave Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Rison officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Lisa Jones, Maysville; three sons, Adam Jones and Hoke Jones, both of Maysville, and Isia McElreath, Arcade; one daughter, Amy Jones, Maysville; three sisters, Janice Hart, Arcade, Annie Kitchens, Comer, and Judy McCannon, Pendergrass; and one grandchild.
